I stopped playing for a few months and I just set the CONSOLE time back to when I stopped playing and it was like I never left. To get the system back to the correct time, you can either keep changing the date forward one day and play a little then repeat. Or wait till someone pings you and you tell them not to move, then you can change the time back to current time with out anyone moving out. Thats how I did it.
(1)
Mark down the last day you played. When you can play again, time travel to that day (or the day after) and play through each day.
(2)
Wait until someone pings you that they want to move. Tell them to stay. Save & Quit. No one can move out until you load the game again on a new day. This way you can let the game sit for those 2 weeks and not have to time travel at all when you get back. I haven't tested this personally yet, but it seems to work most of the time.
I agree with all of the following and would like to add: If you don't have it, enact the Beautiful Ordinance to avoid weeds unless you're working on your weeding badges.
