A week of planning and design, and two weeks of actually doing it and I completed my terraforming... only to sit here thinking to myself that I can do better, and I'm debating doing it again. Bleh, why do I do this to myself... back to the drawing board, I guess. XD

Wouldn't be too bad if moving everything didn't take over two weeks.

I know that feeling lol. The beauty of this game is it's ever changing if you want it to be. As long as you happy with the end result, you're golden :)

The problem with this is the 'set' features make it more difficult to design things, which make me want to restart and I'm trying NOT to do that. Outside of terraforming, I've done so much and I don't want to lose that. I'm way too much of a perfectionist when it comes to designing things...

I've literally sat here for two hours now trying to figure out what to do with the river..

This is very relatable. XD For me, as long as I'm happy, either through enjoying the process of terraforming/decorating or simply enjoying the appearance of my island for what it is, that's all that really matters. Besides, I think it makes sense for a game that's developed by Japanese folks to encourage a mindset around kaizen (continuous improvement). :)

Isn't that part of the fun of the game, though? Having something "complete" is overrated 😝

Especially with fairly frequent updates, new items, new seasons. Maybe sit with it for another day or two and see if you can make little tweaks and changes to improve it instead of scrapping your work altogether.

I felt this in my soul. My dumb dumb brain last night decided to completely redo a small section I was super happy with cause always think “I can do much better” 🙃 went on earlier and sat there wishing I hadn’t changed anything now

I've had it for a good two weeks already and even with small tweaks I'm already seeing how flawed it is. It LOOKS amazing, but it doesn't function amazing. I'm missing out on some 'features' due to the design (no river on higher cliff, etc) and I don't have the room to add any in, etc...

The biggest problem is its far too time consuming to relocate everything. Yes, I can work 'bit by bit', but the whole relocating process literally takes a month real time to complete. The tools we get to shape our island is incredibly flawed and very inconvenient at best. Its my only criticism of this game. Honestly, I may just get off my high horse and time travel to get it done faster, despite my dislike for it.

For now, I design. This river is driving me nuts -- my river mouths are in such an awkward area lol.

If the river is going to truly ruin your enjoyment of the island, and this game for you, Id say figure that out sooner rather than later. Not an easy thing to hear, but the longer you wait, the more you have to play catch up. I understand being a perfectionist, and I feel if i knew that the layout of my island would hinder my enjoyment of the game I'd restart. If you truly feel you can fix it to your liking be patient with it. I believe that you can accomplish anything you put your mind to. I wish you luck with whatever you choose

Restarting itself has far too many negatives compared to positives, so there's no way I'm going to restart. I know I can make what I have work, its just figuring it out that's the hard part. I've gotten a few good ideas, and they're working out so far. I just need to figure out which one works the best.

I'm just going to do a few things to spare my sanity, namely just time-travel to relocate things so I can work on things faster, then just move everyone back in real time.

I just need to figure out if doing this will make my villagers move out without me knowing...

I think there's a lot of stigma of people feeling like they need to have a 'finished' town. But I think that there's a lot of people out there who actually have more fun with designing and changing things up. They enjoy the journey more than the destination itself. It could just be that you have fun with this aspect of the game, and as long as you are getting enjoyment out of it all, I'd say just take your time have fun with it!

Villagers will not move out unless they confirm it with you first.

I get what you mean - every time I think I'm almost done with my island, I think of how I can tweak an area and end up changing it completely - though usually for the better. But I time travel a lot every time I need to change up an area so I can only imagine how frustrating it is without time traveling.

And on the river mouths topic - you could always close the river mouth that isn't working with your plans, or turn it into a little pond that empties into the ocean. And then you can end your main river with a lake or something. I'm not sure if rivers connected to only one river mouth will make any difference in terms of fish that can be caught there, but I doubt it would. And you could always test that by closing a river mouth and then fishing in the river to make sure you still get river fish.

I actually did that with my previous design, it honestly didn't add much to the island at all. The area mine is at is very high north, so it leaves very little room.

I've already started working on my new island, but this is sort of a before and after... granted the "after" is still a WIP:

I've had my stores in the same spot for months now and I decided to move the nooks because I was struggling with the entrance. After placing down the nooks, I thought that a different location would be better.

This is going to be like the museum all over again where I'm going to be flip flopping on where I want the nook store to go. I already redid my campsite like 4 times now
