Hybrids experts! Please help!

I'm someone who's a bit desperate for hybrids.

I started by doing pairs of hybrids, leaving them with one space in all sides

it took a lot of space. so I started doing zig zag lines

with space on all sides. but then I got greedy, and started doing just huge hybrid grounds

to my sad surprise (but kind of expected), I only had 2 hybrids today. with the zig zag patterns, I would get around 4 a day. Using them in pairs would leave me with 2 hybrids a day, usually;

So, was it just bad luck? I watered them all. What is really the best possible way to rearrange them for hybrids?
Please help me.

Also, are there hybrids that are easier to get, or they are just random?
For example, I've only had one blue pansy, but 6 blue violets. I have more pansies to breed than violets. Just random? They are harder to get?

I never really cared about that since I would just order a bunch of them in WW and CF (thank you gods of duping), I was usually more interested in house interiors and would use them for path-making and usually fill empty boring spaces of town. I think my recent love for plants and flowers got me on acnl too.

I think I read every single hybrid guide that there is on the internet, but I've never seen them specifying the best way to make breeding gardens.

Ok, this was long haha, sorry, but I would appreciate input of people who are also into flower breeding who have been successful. I don't want to reorganize once again just to find out that the way I did it doesn't work. ):

I think it's a combination of luck and also too many flowers. Think of it this way, if you only have 1 pair of flowers in your town, the chances of you getting a hybrid is greater because the game will randomly generate flowers to add to your town every day and will take into account any hybrid pairs you have placed. So if it only generates 1 flower you have a better chance of getting a hybrid with just one flower pair than with 50 flower pairs. Does that make sense?

I've also heard that folks with beautiful town active only water the flowers that they want to breed together in order to maximise their chances of getting hybrids. But I haven't actually had a chance to test this out for myself.

As for types of hybrids. It's definitely a bit of luck of a draw. I have more black roses than I do blue pansies for example but I also have a fair few pink and orange lilies which are meant to be "difficult" to breed.

Most of the hybrid guides on the internet are wrong. I prefer to do a pattern like this:

It is just easier to keep track of. How many days have you been doing this? Around 2 a day is actually pretty good. I didn't get any today, and I have over 50 hybrids laid out in a pattern like the one charted above. (Then again, I was too lazy to water them yesterday, because I technically don't have to unless I want more hybrids with the beautiful town ordinance.)

The easiest to start is to just buy a pair of each hybrid from people on the retail board.

I love gardening in Animal Crossing too, and yeah when it comes to flower breeding things can get tricky. I don't really think there is a "best" way to breed flowers, it's all up to the player. What I found that works best for me is lining them up diagonally like you mentioned in the beginning.

I use to have them lined up side to side as well but the diagonal seems to produce more hybrids for me.

Well, it seems like hybrid types are random (except blue roses and purple pansies I think haha) because I had quite a bit of pink and orange lilies, but only a single blue pansy.

Are there people selling hybrids already? Never saw someone selling them. For how much are they going for?

The above arrangement is what I use, I can get anywhere between 0 to about 4 or 5 a day, it's just luck.

Also I was unsure on Hybrid prices the other day so asked on Re-tail

The responses I got were different but here is a 'rough' price for each Hybrid:


~30k = Most hybrids
~50k = Black roses
~75k = Gold roses
~100/200k = Blue roses / Purple Pansies
~150k = Jacobs Ladder
~200k = Carnations

Blue roses are the (possible) offspring of red (or blue) roses that have spawned from orange and purple roses. I can't remember exactly what purple pansies come from, but it's just as complicated as making blue roses.
