How to save that 10th villager space?

I turned off streetpass, what else should I do to save my tenth villager space? Should I stop visiting people via wifi?

Don't visit anyone and also don't let them visit you. Both of these things can lead to a 10th villager moving in.

Yea, visiting people via wi-fi can get you a villager, even if you never speak to them in the other town.

No wonder I just had 9 villagers for weeks. (I thought I had 10, I never counted)
