How much of villagers furniture can we replace?

I learned today we can replace things with the same size thing as the thing were trying to replace... but can we replace all the things or are some of the villagers items permanent? For instance I was wondering if I could replace Jerry's kitchen table with a same size bed.. if it was possible I'd want to try and replace the chair that's next to the table also
