How long is it polite to wait before you give up on someone adopting a villager? No bells exchanged, just verbal "I want it" "ok, you can have it when it goes in boxes." So once the villager's in boxes and the PM is sent, how long do you wait without response before you offer it to someone else? I'm trying to move some villagers out so I can reset the game, and am starting to get bored waiting to reset....

uh... As long as you think you should? Honestly, if someone is taking too long for a response I'd consider giving it to a someone else. It puts you at an inconvenience when you need to give them something thats holding you up for others. Especially if that one person doesn't respond even after you sent countless messages and notifications, and they chose to ignore you. (Happened to me once, not saying who)

If you are sending PMs and the other person is not responding, then move on. I usually give someone 24 hours to respond because then time zone or the other person's schedule is not an excuse for not responding quickly enough.

It's not been long enough yet that I want to pester them with PMs. Guess I'll just wait and see.

Just send one PM. That is not really "pestering". Once I have a trade agreement in place, I usually get a PM chain going because I usually don't go back and check the thread and the other person may not check it very often either. If the other person really wants that villager, (s)he should not be annoyed with you sending a PM to get the trade going.

I usually will send one. I wait a little bit. If I need to get a villager out and could lose out because of this person I do not risk it. I will then send a second PM saying a polite "Hey... haven't heard anything and this villager is going to leave soon. I need to hear from you within {whatever..an hour...twenty minutes} or they will be gone" And then start looking for other people for offers. It is your game and your villager or item. Sometimes people don't reply and it is better to start looking for other offers than to lose out because someone screwed you over.
