How does Nook's Shop work, please.

This raccoon has been selling shovels for a week straight. I would love to get to fishing and bug catching but according to him, I need to keep digging fossils... and making 0 money.... Is it the same in this game, and I'm just super darn unlucky again?

As far as I remember, Nook's Cranny should have 2 slots for tools. I don't know why it hasn't been used yet if you've had this town for a week. I was able to obtain both tools from Nook's Cranny so you seem to just be unlucky.

If you can't seem to get the tools no matter what, try talking to your villagers a lot. If you're lucky, one of them might give you a foreign fruit which sells for 500 Bells. Then, since you have a shovel, you can plant it and start making some money. This money will cause Nook's Cranny to upgrade. Once you have Nook 'n' Go, you should be guaranteed to get one of the tools every day.

I don't have experience with emulating Nintendo games, so I don't know whether it causes weird bugs like that. I remember it being 2 slots but it could very well be 1. I haven't actually been in Nook's Cranny for a long time. Either way, upgrading to Nook 'n' Go should hopefully fix your problem.

Yup there's only one tool slot in GCN Nook's Cranny. It's so awful, especially if you try and share your town with multiple residents! It sounds like you're just getting super unlucky though, I've gotten the other tools on later days emulating it myself before.

If you want a break from the suffering, you could try inputting the Fishing Rod universal code from this website: https://www.supercheats.com/gamecube/walkthroughs/animalcrossing-walkthrough18.txt Talk to Tom Nook and there should be a dialogue option for inputting a code -- I forget exactly what he calls it in-game.

No, there are two slots for tools in Nook's Cranny, he just doesn't always use both of them. It's not a great example because he's only using one slot, but as you can see in this image, there is room for two tools. And I have personally seen two tools at a time. Usually shovel + one other thing.

Have you been sending the fossils to the museum for appraisal? I honestly don't know how the game is coded but it may expect you to do that before it'll give you more tools. Tbh unless you're playing on a rainy summer day, it's way easier to earn money hitting the money rock and selling fossils than it is through fishing/bug hunting.
