How do you prevent Villagers from getting rid of good looking Items in their Room when you gift them Stuff?

Well, Question is in the title.

When I still had Monty, he got rid of his Mushroom Lamp, just to put his new Beanie Hat in the same Spot. It looked stupid and I could not stand looking at it. I suppose I had to give him a Locker or something else first?

I just want to be sure they don’t get rid of something nice, just because they are running out of space somehow. We all know that that’s not true, but they love getting rid of all their furniture just to put that one stupid Sea Bass there.

So, if that accidentally happens, do you talk to Isabelle or what is your plan in the end?

You can gift your villagers fruit!
I had the same problem of not wanting to ruin the houses of my villagers so that's what I did.

You can't. I've seen people either giving them fruit or not giving them anything at all to avoid this.

Even if you give them something nice, there's no guarantee they'll place it well. I gave Piper an alarm clock and she put it on a table (fine) but made the clock face the wall (why?!).

I'm not sure if you can really control what they do with the stuff you give them, unfortunately! I gave Punchy a music player because he'd gotten rid of his, and then he used it but also put his old music player back and now he has 2 that are the same thing in different colors. I gave Chief a nice customized bed because he uses an ugly cardboard bed by default and he just put it in a different spot so now he has 2 beds. I gave Punchy a mug and he put it on top of the fridge instead of on one of his two empty tables. I gave Chief a cute outfit and he wore it for a day and then put it next to the trashcan. It's a shame because I actually like giving them nice stuff instead of keeping their houses 100% default--for example, I gave Chief a zen cushion customized to the same pattern I customized his extra bed to, and he replaced the little table he had his music player on with it and it looks much nicer that way tbh. But the AI just doesn't seem to be very smart :( The only way to gift them stuff and still keep their houses completely original, I think, is to gift them fruit. Or flooring & wallpaper since they can't use those.

I've been avoiding gifting them fish/insects but I recently realized that when a villager buys a fish from your pockets it will also get displayed in their house. I feel bad saying no so now all of my villager's houses look awful...

It's best not to question villager's logic. 😌

Figured this would happen, I don't gift my villagers anything besides clothes because I don't want to ruin their pretty houses!

That was an issue for me, but I would always allow the villagers to buy fish and bugs from me because I need to increase their relationship. But most of the time I see my villagers house a bit messy compared to NL which was way worse because they would replace their large or nice items. I just give them matching furniture or clothes based on their preference.
