I'm curious about how you guys go about laying your paths?
I'm in the process of laying paths in my town at the moment and its been time consuming, I'm not even sure I'll keep them all.
So do you guys have a plan when you start laying yours or do you just go with it?
I'd also love it if you guys would post some pics!

I try to plot out corners first, and then dotted paths in between. It means I don't have to change the whole thing if it needs tweaking, but once my idea is solid then I fill in the path entirely. Sometimes it takes a while for me to really figure out what my paths are going to be like ultimately, that's why I sometimes have dotted paths for ages. It's enough to give me a rough visual aid, but not enough to be a pain in the ass to remove and start over.

All things considered, before even laying down any patterns I try to map out a route in my head where the paths will actually lead, but it really depends on my houses and PWPs, so it changes every so often. If I feel like I might forget something I had planned I either leave the dotted path as mentioned or dig some holes, but the latter is only if I'm planning to fill in that path on the day since holes disappear.

I start by laying a random pattern every few steps between all major buildings in town, then filling it in, then replacing it with the path I want. As I further develop the town I'll place more pathways where I always end up running. It's also a personal preference of mine that every path be somehow connected to the town plaza.

I had a full path in town for a while, but took it out since I didn't have an alt to hold the designs. But I remember it taking forever to do. I think I started with some main routes, between my house and retail, bridges, the plaza. I liked the design because it had angled corners so paths could go diagonally.

Now I've got a less full path, just an occasional pattern here and there. It started sorta at the centre of my map, a the bridge in front of my house, and grew over to Retail, and then the cafe, then up to the rail road crossing, and slowly I've added paths where I find myself walking most. There's still more options for expansion, connecting more PWPs and villager houses, but I'm happy with a winding path that gets me around my town to see the sights.

I wait until I have all the villagers I wanted in my town and started to create my paths around their houses and my pwps. It was a very long process...

Pretty much what I did. I'm also glad that I chose a path design that didn't take up so much space and didn't need to be placed in a certain pattern.

I just roll with it 'cause my path placement is really simple, nothing too detailed. The path I chose is basic and can fit on one character. Too lazy for placeholder patterns at the start, so my town was pathless for a while until I unlocked the sewing machine and found a path I liked. Then I just went through my town starting at the train station and laid down a main path that leads to all the important buildings/pwps, and made sure everything connected. Retail, town hall, train station + the main bridge that leads to town plaza, etc. I'm not too great with extravagant paths, so so far this is enough for me. Definitely spared myself some time.

the path i have is all over my town. with flowers, stumps & saplings scattered around. i like to keep it messy

I used to have paths in my town but I don't anymore. The reason why is because I didn't have any room for other designs (I didn't have another profile to hold the designs, plus I didn't want to have a profile that I'm never going to use), the fact that items might disappear if they land on top of paths and the fact that they are square and look weird when placed against the edges of a cliff or river. Not to mention that if someone moves out and a new villager moves in somewhere else, you have to get rid of the path leading to the house that is now gone and build a new path that leads to the new villager's house.

I've pretty much laid paths throughout the top half of my town ,but I'm like you, I like to keep it messy/random looking so i;ve got mushrooms and fossils and other items scattered about.

Im going to a 'path', using path as a VERY loosely phrase as to I will lay down random like stone paths that are shaped like moons & stars. They look like they lead someplaces but not to all places.

Paths take way to long so I decided to make a path without paths. Like a forest path that's actually legit :D with trees and bushes on the side.

I use paths to make the town look a little more put together, but they don't lead anywhere. While I appreciate some paths that go through the entire town, people tend to landscape and decorate around the paths, so when I'm dreaming it makes everything seem a little too linear when I'm trying to explore.
