One tip is the houses with more decor are more serious about Halloween. So they have better loot.

How do you guys know where the good candy is?

1) "rich" neighbourhoods.
2) Neighbourhoods with lots of kids
3) Decorated houses

When I used to go or take my siblings trick or treating I stuck firmly to those points and skipped most houses that didn't apply. I/they would always have at least one huge bag overflowing with treasure.

when i was young, i'd just go to every house possible on my side of the estate and come home with an overflowing shopping bag's worth regardless. i don't understand people who act like only rich neighborhoods are worth attention on the holiday just because they "may" give out "better" candy. my area is relatively poor. definitely not even middle class. yet i always got a decent amount of my favorite sweets. sometimes the undecorated houses belong to elderly or disabled people who aren't necessarily able or mobile enough to decorate their exteriors but who still give out candy. there used to be an undecorated house around the back of one of our streets that most people skipped, and every year they would either give me money (£1 was pretty good back then) or a big handful of sweets. that and i just felt straight up bad skipping houses? i liked going around and, in my eyes, brightening up people's evenings in my dumb costume -- especially those who lived alone and/or had no family of their own. the "quality" of the sweets was never a core focus for me. it was always dressing up and having fun, which included involving anyone and everyone i could, regardless of whether they gave me a homemade pick-'n-mix bag or some crappy off-brand chewy sweets.

that said, if you are bothered about it, go to a "rich" neighborhood ig. but judging a book by its cover (or a house by its income/decorations) means you might be missing out on "good" treats elsewhere in my experience.

We used to drive around and see which neighborhoods were giving out candy. Like see which ones had kids going around and such. It seemed to work just fine, since we would fill up our pumpkin buckets every time.

Just go to a rich neighborhood if you’re that concerned. I wouldn’t judge houses by the way they look though. Judging anything by the way it looks is never good. There’s way too much importance on appearance nowadays.

My strategy was quantity over quality so you go where there's townhouses or the houses are close together so there's less time wasted walking between the spread out houses. If you live in a rural area this won't work cause everyone is a million miles apart.

You could try using the app called Nextdoor if you live in the US. They have a treat map section for people that will be decorating their houses or passing out candy.

Honestly, it’s best not to judge a book by it’s cover. This year my family and I didn’t have a lot of time to decorate, so we’re just going to use a blinking black cat projector as decoration. For treats, I’m giving out full size candy bars, cookies for the little ones, and chips. Who knows how many more families were too busy to decorate as well?

When I was a child, we would just hit up a different block or visit a relative’s neighborhood each year. If we got a haul that year, then we would visit again the next year. Rinse and repeat. It was lots of fun exploring new areas.

Yes, this! I love Halloween and seeing all the cute kids in their costumes but rarely ever get trick-or-treaters, which makes me sad. I don't live in a wealthy neighborhood and don't have the time/money to decorate, but when I do give out candy I go big. I get a huge variety to please every palate and give out heaping handfuls or just let the kids grab as much as they want out of the bowl. So you never know who will give out the goods on Halloween.

When I was young, my goal was always to just hit every single house that had their light on in my neighborhood. I always got more than enough candy that way and ended up trading or giving away any of the candy that I didn't really like with my brother and my friends.

I would say I am in a middle class area, not rich but they arent council houses, so either mortgage or rent

I LOVE halloween so my house is always super dressed up for it, kids all know to come to my house, me an my parents make up little cone bags full of little candy sweets like a little fun size candy bar with a lolly an some gunmies in it, usually mines is the first to be hit an the first to finish, even though am at the bottom of the street, then they go to the other houses buts it's obvious here who does it, those that skip it have the house in darkness
