So some villagers became more popular than others, usually the one of a kind villagers. By this I mean that, for instance, Julian is the only unicorn, which makes him the most desired villager EVER. And some really awesome villagers are tier fives, which is kind of annoying in my opinion. Some great villagers, like my best friends, end up being tier fives, I don't know how some of these are decided, but whatever.

But how do YOU feel about the list? Many people make them, but one is more popular than the others.

Personally I think it's a little silly, but what do I know.

P.S. This is a poll. So please vote.

Having it as a "guide" is silly to me but I don't pay attention to it much. I'm going to go as far as saying that I don't even fully trust it is 100% accurate anyway. It's almost impossible to find that out.

Considering how the forum uses it, I look at it only when I want to purchase a villager so I know how much to offer fof.

I'm okay with it I agree on some villagers and some I don't agree with (like come on Colton at tier 5?? madness)
I just use it to buy villagers I want who are certain tiers

It's fine. It should only be used as reference for pricing villagers when cycling. I don't like it when people use it as a guide to having what villagers in your town. That's not what the game is about.

Can't see a problem with it. I think it would be very difficult to run cycle towns without it. Generally people understand how much they can expect to pay for a villager of a certain tier, so it also saves them getting ripped off potentially. Think it's a little inaccurate at the moment due to the fact it needs updating. But as its all done from observation of which villagers are selling well or being looked for, I can't see any problem with it. It is in no way supposed to influence who anybody chooses. It's just good for pricing villagers

I personally think popularity all depended on the way the villager looks.. Which is fine if your designing your town a certain way.
But if your playing the game and not designing it's always fun keeping track of all the villagers you've met, hopefully you complete the list!

There's certain villagers, like Marshal (!!), Julian, and Ankha that will always be popular. Despite some people hating them because they're "overhyped!!" or "not even that cool..." most people like them, because cute and unique designs, cuteness and general rare vibe. However some people just want these villagers purely for the reason that they're a status symbol, the sort of thing that will make visitors to your town think 'Oh my goodness they're so rich to be able to afford Marshal!' Or 'Wow! They must have been SO lucky to find Ankha!'. Think of villagers as badges, or trading cards, the rarer ones you have, no matter how you obtained them, they just look good on your signature, all ticked off, or perhaps as a little token of personal animal crossing excellence.
However, other villagers are hit or miss, or maybe just appeal to a more niche audience. Pietro is my one true favourite villager, and despite the fact that yeah, he's unique, and fairly cute, doesn't mean some people hate clowns. So he's bumped down because of that, whilst the God-tier villagers shine at the top due to their universal popularity. Like highschool cliques! And then there's those villagers that everyone just seems to dislike because they're 'ugly' or too unpopular. Some people will buy these for a price however, and although it's common to see villagers like Hazel given away for free, some people will love her for sentimental value.
TLDR? The system is good, as it helps with valuing villagers!

Well, it's not like I pay much attention to it except for the fun :) My fave ever Marshal was already my fave long before I came to know how much popular he is. Also, there are many tier5 villagers I love, and tier1 that I don't like at all!

i like it but also don't like the factor that many cute villagers get no recognition and ones like marshal will always stay at the very top

i have no problem with it, how you feel about villagers is exclusive to you, but it's a good reference if you're trying to sell them, since it can help with pricing.

Hm, threads like this pop up all the time, but the Villager Popularity Thread is going nowhere and is a necessary "evil" whether you can appreciate it or not. Not to mention Chrys puts in a lot of effort into it.

But there is no judgement or bias put into deciding the factors of it or whose in what tier. So saying amazing villagers are in it really has no value to the argument against it. I love my villagers and lots are in the last tier too. That doesn't make them better or worse than those always in Tier 1 unless you let yourself believe that.

It is literally just a tool to organize the cycling towns and transactions that go around the Plaza. Can you imagine trying to buy or sell villagers without such a guide? You could possibly be shelling out millions of Bells for villagers like Rodeo EVERYTIME. It looks at who is the most popular and frequently sold and organizes frequent prices for those villagers, so those coming into here have a base to know what things are like around here. Its all supply and demand. So be grateful someone is organizing and keeping things under control because otherwise villager prices of all sorts would sky-rocket

I do like how it's useful for selling the villagers. But I don't like how it gets the wrong people into thinking that just because they're higher tier means they're better or lower tier means they're terrible. seriously knock it off

I voted mixed feelings, just because I'm pretty indifferent towards it. I like that it kind of helps out the economy here, and it's fun to see how others feel about villagers. Other people's opinions shouldn't matter or dictate how you feel about a villager, but for the sake of gaining knowledge on even the most trivial of things I find the list to be a great source of information. There are villagers I feel are better suited for different tiers on the list, but I have no bad feelings about it at all. I could care less in the end, as long as I have who I want and who I like. That's why I chose the middle option lol.

^^^ agreed with both of these. i think a lot of people mistakenly believe the list is about which villagers are "better" when it's not, it's purpose is just to help cyclers/sellers price villagers. it's all about demand, and that in itself is hard to measure anyway because it's constantly changing. plus chrystina really does put a crazy amount of work into it, i could never keep up with all of it.

I think it's fine as a pricing guide for selling and trading villagers, but there are a lot of people who think of it as a social thing, and that's ridiculous. People will harass others if they like "bad villagers", and some people get a little gossipy about people who "only have villagers as dreamies because they are popular", and overall everyone is really rude to each other.
