How do I switch to the 3DS clock?

I switched to the in-game clock about 6 or so months ago, and then went inactive and stopped playing. Now I'm back, and I'm kinda wanting to switch to the 3DS clock again; sadly, whenever I try to, the game doesn't recognize the changes I make in the settings

Also, do to some TTing issues I had, my game is in April... 2013. ;u; Any safe ways for me to get back to 2014 without losing all meh villagers?

you have to log in the game after changing the time, you cant change it and go back.
edit* are you changing it in-game or in the 3ds settings? bc the system clock changes the in game clock accordingly, as in if its 2013 in game and 2014 in the system and you change it to 2015 on the clock itll turn to 2014 in game.

also, if you deny a villagers request to move, you should be able to safely make the jump of a year. its worked on everyone else I've known who tried it.
