How do I make a custom design for the sign PWP?

Whenever I talk to Mable and tell her I wanna make a pro design, she just asks if I want to make a dress, shirt or hat...

Just make a normal one and click the sign and put it on it's so simple and easy!

Yeah you can! Just make a design click the board stick it on and hey presto you've got yourself a board with something on!

I made the map (I want to display a design a map of my town onto the board) on the front of a shirt... I went up to the stand and pressed a, but it didn't let me select the design! What do I do? Someone help me please!? I really want to display it, since I spent an HOUR on this!
Am I supposed to make the design on something else or what? ;-;

You'll need to make a standard pattern, not a custom pattern. And you can only use your own designs for boards.

Okay, I edited it. Now it changed from a custom design.
Yay! Lol thanks for telling me, I panicked because I thought I had to make it again onto something else.
