How close can a tree sapling be to my plaza?

I see a lot of hacked towns surround their plaza with trees. I'm not hacking mine, but before I waste any saps, how close CAN they be to the plaza?

If planted in these areas, tree saplings will die the day after, and disappear. Occasionally, saplings will die even in open areas."

Trees can be planted right next to the cobblestone areas of the plaza, train station, town hall, etc., actually. I've done so in my town.

I can confirm this. I have done this in my town and they grow fine.

Yeah I think they should be fine next to the cobblestone, it?s just the PWP?s and houses and such that I?ve seen they can?t grow next to.

Yep, I can also confirm that you can plant trees, bushes, and bamboo directly next to the cobblestone. I have done it and they grew successfully and I don't hack.
