How can I get my villager to change their shirt?

Hi everyone, my Francine doesn't change her shirt no matter what I do, I have sent her various different shirts and tanks to wear (including her original one) countless times on different days yet she still refuses to wear it, I have complained about her clothes to Isabelle (very bad idea!) and she was in sweats for like a week before changing to that hideous 'any town' orange shirt xD Can someone please share any tips? I honestly don't know what I am doing that is wrong!

First, I took out those any town shirts on ables and replaced them with shirt designs I made (OR umbrellas if you want them to keep their original shirt). That way, they wont be wearing those ugly shirts anymore.

iirc a user posted it before that what they do is when the villager is inside their house, they empty their pocket of other furniture (if you have any in your pocket) and money and fill it with flowers + the 1 shirt you'd want them to wear. Save first before entering their house and then start talking to them until they ask to buy or trade the shirt you have in your pockets. They'll most likely change in front of you and if not just quit without saving and then repeat.

Hhmm, I had never heard of the previous tips, but what I did to make Merengue wear her original chef outfit was to send her letters with it attached as a present. At least once a day, and sometimes wrapped with wrapping paper from Nook's. She eventually (I think after 12 days or so) changed her outfit, although it didn't last long.

1. change all able sister designs for umbrellas, dresses or hats

2.
a) choose a shirt to send, go buy it
b) write a letter, attach the shirt and save
c) TT forward to 4:58pm, and send the letter
d) wait till 5pm and go back to your town
e) find the villager that you sent the letter to
f) if he has the shirt, you are done, save and carry on
g) if he still has the old shirt, quit w/o saving and repeat the process from c

works like a charm, but they still can exchange shirts in conversations. it helps to not be idle outside constantly, that triggers villagers conversations. always go check their chit-chats, so they won't change catchphrases/shirts

I think you could also try sending them multiple letters at once, all with the same shirt you want them to wear attached ^_^

Same as daiyuflower I send like 4 letters with the shirt you want to the villager also you could try holding the shirts in your inventory and hopefully pings you to buy it
