How are you supposed to catch citrus long-horned beetles and jewel beetles?

These are two of the last three bugs I need to catch this month. The thing is, the way they spawn seems to be impossible to catch them?
So they both spawn on stumps, but the stumps never visibly have bugs on them. Even though there's no bug visible, I've scared many of both of these bugs. I've hit the stumps with my net from multiple angles but it never catches the bugs and just scares them. I even tried to dig up the stump to see if they would pop out that way, but there wasn't any way for me to tell if that was incorrect or if a bug wasn't present (since there's nothing visible)

You gotta cut down a lotta trees and just kinda watch for them. They aren't too rare

I see a very visable bug with the citrus beetle. They are big and take up most of the stump. You don't see anything in the stumps? Do you see snails?

the bugs should be 100% visible on the stumps, they've never been invisible for me...does your layout have your stumps in a difficult spot to see? those bugs should absolutely not be invisible

I haven't had any trouble catching these! I'm able to just sneak up and swoop!

You should see them skittering around on top of the stumps, even from a distance away. You need to sneak up to them (holding your net at the ready while slow-walking up to the stump), then position yourself in a manner that when you swing the net down, it'll land directly on top of the stump (and on top of the bug). As long as you are specifically sneak-walking up, they shouldn't fly away

What do you mean there's never visibly a bug? The stump should have the bug's model on it just like the mantis' on flowers. They don't always spawn, so you might want to have a lot of stumps?

for reference, here is a jewel beetle on a stump, this is what it should look like for you:

you should be able to see them! like others have said, i would recommend trying to make more stumps for more chances!

hold a when you approach with a net, you should be able to catch it from two spaces away. if it helps, you can even dig holes around the stumps and you'll be able to catch it from that distance without scaring it.

I know that the bugs are spawning because I can see the animations of them flying away, both a yellow bug and a dark bug. I only had one stump so I would know where to pass to check if they spawned, but there's just never a bug on top of the stump... the only time I SEE them is when they're flying away ):

The top of the stump is in clear view and it's always empty whether or not a bug flies out of it when I swat at it.

You need to sneak up on them, and never ever run near the stump or else they'll fly away. I've definitely scared away my fair share of bugs, both the beetles and the atlas moth because I'm running so much.

Sneaking isn't the problem, I've gotten close enough to where I can release my sneak + hit the net perfectly where the bug SHOULD be. But since the bug isn't showing, it flies away, even though I should have gotten its "hitbox" (done this with both beetles)

I know exactly what you're talking about. My first stump I made was glitchy like that. I suggest getting rid of that stump and making a new one. That should fix it. It did for me.

Yeah, I would definitely do what DJStarstyker said. I also only have one stump on my entire island for this very purpose. Makes it way easy to see if there's a stump spawn. They're not particularly rare either. I hope a new stump works out for you!

Oh, I forgot to make a stump for bug spawns. I'll have to go find a suitable tree for sacrifice this evening.

Now, if I could make it easier to see that stupid Atlas moth before I frighten it off, I'd be all set. :)

still have to find the jewel beetle as well. is it available in southern hemisphere islands rn?

What an odd glitch...

The very first two stumps I made (side by side) produced both these bugs at the same time, just minutes later. But to not see the bug animation at all?

I'd love to learn the specifics of what it takes for that to happen.

If anyone can get a vid of it I'd love to see it.
