How are people getting new items?

I see on Instagram pictures of people who have all of the new furniture, like the stuff from thanksgiving and the toys and such. How are they getting the items? Is it from hacking the switch? Are the items able to be catalogued?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think a lot of the items became available through time-traveling once the latest update came out.

The Holidays are locked against time travel.

OP - its hacking. The first 6 months of Switches have an unpatchable hack. Those people use their switches, hack the items out of the time locked event, and sell them.

Thanks so much! Now I just need to find someone who’s selling the items lol

Like others have said, this isn't the first time Nintendo decided to timelock the items and others have obtained by hacking or from hackers. They did it for bunny day and the wedding events and I'm pretty sure they'll do it for future events too.

If you want to avoid hacked items, it's best to just wait a few days to learn if they are hacked or not before trying to buy them from other players if you don't time travel.

That's crazy! Does anyone know if all the items are time locked? Even some of the new stuff you're supposed to be able to buy at Nooks like the tents, animatronic dogs, etc...or just the harvest and toy day specific stuff? I'd hate to buy something that's hacked online!

Please refer to @Rosch's thread here for this information. I've actually been referring to it myself whenever we receive a report about these items. :)

I visited a random dream town last night that had all the holiday items. It was kind of fun playing with the new toys, and seeing the different variations. I can't wait to get my own.

Yep it's hacks and a large amount of them are catalogable. I also wanted to say not all people who are hacking them in are selling them or are shady. There are many people giving them away for free.
People are having free catalog parties with them, streamers are inviting their viewers over to catalog or grab them, and people are doing giveaways with them. I believe they're spreading around a lot more this way and I recommend that if you are going to get them, getting them this way instead of supporting someone charging a large amount for them.

Ah, that's good to know. There is a lot of misinformation out there - I can't find it now, but I saw some reddit post where someone was adamant it wasn't "hacking". Not sure if they were arguing semantics or if they were just misinformed.

Honestly, if Nintendo is so against hacking (and it seems they have been trying to crack down on it, R.I.P star fragment trees) time-locking the items is just extra dumb. Not only does it prevent people who simply enjoy time-traveling and have no interest in spoiling the game for others from enjoying the game we always have (not that I'm bitter 😒 ...okay, I am) but it ensures people are gonna be hacking. It's just utterly pointless!

I'd be careful with purchasing items that are hacked in. If any data on them is messed up, you're save file is at huge risk.

If you ever come across any times that appear to be glitched(flashing/messed up graphics), don't keep or take them. I haven't personally heard any signs of this corrupting anyone's save, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Even if they were harmless, you can't un-glitch them. Otherwise, they are safe.

If you happen to want to look for these items outside of TBT, please get help from someone you can trust, as you would with any transaction. And don't interact with someone who's asking for in-game items or real money...they're trying to take advantage of you and others.

I would be apprehensive to buy any hacked items, as others are saying. You never know. Is it really worth potentially risking your save file to get a puppy plushie a few weeks early? I personally wouldn't.

They are all hacked items that is how people are getting them. I also keep seeing ads on other websites that I am on from Nookazon saying they have all the items to buy :( it is getting annoying

Any hacked item has the risk of being 'glitchy', and are completely unpredictable in what they do. Honestly, if you even see these items, leave as soon as possible.

The majority of those items are hacked, the only item I know of that you can genuinely get via Time Traveling is the set of stockings (sold in Nook's Cranny). I have come across it myself and thus can confirm it, and so has TBTF user NefariousKing, I'm pretty sure, who took screen shots for proof.

As others have said you technically could purchase these hacked items early, however I would strongly advise against it because hacked items can permanently damage your save file and ultimately corrupt your game (make it unplayable), so waiting until turkey day/toy day is your best bet.

Can someone explain how the hacked items can corrupt your save file or is there a specific instance of this happening to someone? I cataloged them from someone for free not knowing they were hacked, but they appear just to be regular items that show up in your catalog? This seems different to me than things like star trees, which are something that was never technically in the game, but maybe I'm just misunderstanding something. I don't currently have a dream address, if that matters.

I usually play the game in real time, but I had so much trouble getting the fall DIYs, that when I saw someone tweet they were letting people come catalog the Christmas stuff, it seemed much more convenient to just get it now than deal with the RNG or color-locking later.

This is very good to know. I saw a few ppl with various items and was curious to know what the affects of the hacked items would be. While I want the tents and plushies, it seems super scary to buy them hacked. I would be so very sad if my save file gets messed up. So not worth risk.
