Well, here's the thing. I haven't played in a LONG time. I recently decided to restart Pokemon X, and now I'm considering restarting ACNL.

I have reasons to keep and restart my game - here they are:

CONS of restarting
- I've spent HOURS, DAYS... YEARS on this town
- I have a few hundred million bells
- I have all of my favorite villagers: Bob, Chief, Lolly, and Freya to name a few.
- My town has a bunch of pink flowers that I would hate to lose

PROS of restarting
- A new slate to get me back into ACNL
- An opportunity to go a new direction with my town
- An opportunity to start fresh and appreciate ACNL
- Something to do in my otherwise boring life

YES I can have a friend hold my items and bells, though I am a bit too lazy to have them hold my cycled villagers... I'll likely just see about buying myself some replacement villagers if I do end up restarting.

Thoughts?
Here are posts of my town if you would like some examples of what I have accomplished with it:

Silly of me to ask opinions but I'm really unsure! I really love my town but I feel like it could be better, and completely redoing it isn't an option because I'm not that much of a fan of my map. I've had this town since ACNL came out!

(edit): Just found out Bob left me.. I'm real sad about that ;o; He's my favorite

I was gonna say don't do it even before I read. Then I saw your pics. Gorgeous!! But losing your favorite villager is such a setback. That would be the last straw for me. You can't buy a second cartridge instead?

I actually had a second game, I JUST sold it to a friend! I don't really have the time or patience for two towns I'm afraid. Thank you very much for the compliments on my town! Maybe I should just keep working on it. I suppose I've just hit a wall - I have no clue what to do now!

your town is s o beautiful?? holyy?? honestly i wouldnt want to delete a town so beautiful good lord

Just think of it this way: if you're already not playing anymore, what makes you think if you keep your old town you're gonna want to still play it? It's nice and sentimental to keep old towns, I agree, but if it's holding you back from playing the game then I say go for it and reset! Use this opportunity to brainstorm a new theme that you'll be really interested in playing out and create new goals for yourself. And maybe on this town don't accumulate dreamies and just let animals float in and out of your town like the game was created for. Or do dreamies if that's your thing, but find new ones that tie into the theme you're going for.

It really is a gorgeous town but I get how you must be feeling. I've reset my town a lot of times when I feel like I've done everything I want and it begins to feel like a chore. Losing all those bells will be tough but you can always buy more with TBT, same with the villagers and items.

Plus, you can always visit your town via dreams. If you go there at least once a week, maybe even longer (I've gone a whole month not visiting my dream town but idk if others were visiting it too) then your town will still be saved in dreams and you can also enjoy the experience of building a new town.

^^Melba!!! That used to be my avatar she's my fave.

Anyways OP I would reset. I've reset my town twice now and I'll admit I felt regret for the first couple of weeks but once I started getting excited about how to use the new space I felt I had made the right choice. As for villagers I always just villager reset for pretty much the exact same 10 villagers so that never plays a huge role in my decision.

Good luck either way!

The experienced players who've reset are making super good points. That's what I started to think. If you're already feeling like you're in a rut, keeping the town won't change anything no matter how many compliments you get. You are clerly skilled enough to make a new town amazing.

Like the others said you can always redesign your town and turn it into something completely different or go for a different theme. It can be a little hard changing your theme up if you have permanent public works projects, because that's a little different because that can't be undone and if that's a factor since you mentioned not liking your town map i'd definitely reset. But if it's just how you've done your landscaping that can easily be changed trust me, when landscaping my town there were some areas I didn't like how I landscaped them so I just tried a different way of aligning my bushes and trees instead of having them in a straight line and it looked like a completely different town and I found that I loved it. Therefore I was no longer unhappy with how my town looked. So maybe you could try that out first before deleting?

I say think it through carefully and think "do I really want to do this or am I only doing this because i'm bored with the game?" because I know for sure I get tempted to reset whenever there's nothing really going on in game since a fresh start always gives you a ton of things to do. If you feel like you could do better though I say go for it! there's no time like the present and besides it's better to have your town to your liking then a town you feel like you didn't try your best with. All the best!

i spent 3 years (actual years) on my last town, but i decided to restart. i just didn't feel like playing anymore, it felt like everything was finished and i didn't want to go through the trouble of digging everything up and restarting, so i restarted. i feel great after i did, and i'm doing so much better on my new town. although you don't want to delete anything, if it helps you get back up and going, i say go for it

If you don't feel a drive to play anymore, it's probably time to reset.
If you want to keep some of your money or flowers or villagers, you could consider giving someone you trust a few bells to hold onto that stuff!

Your town is so pretty. I'm not sure how to answer because I have never had a finished town or reached that far. I am still working on basic things in my towns right now. I think I would, in your position, buy a new cartridge and keep this town.

I want to ask everyone on the forum here, forgive my ignorance, but how do people get that many bells? Is it from turnips? I don't understand how that is possible.

This is pretty off topic to ask, maybe you should've made a separate thread for this. To answer your question, they often grind for bells on the island by catching island only bugs and fish. Beetles and stags sell for quite a lot especially rainbow stags. Also sharks are a good option too since they can sell for a LOT at retail, you can make multiple trips to the island in one day so that's how come they can earn so much. If you're curious I recommend going at night since that's where all the good bugs and fish come out.

if you feel very connected to the town it might be worth to get another copy of the game. a fresh start is a great way to get back into the game, but from personal experience it can be nice to tale a breal from a town to later come back to it. i have three copies of the game, and while i get that you might not want to spend 30 dollars on a new game it might be worth it!

i have a town that i played hundreds of hours in that i habent played in for a while, but i love the town and i have been redesigning it a lot. but it is very nice to just be able to go back to the town once in a while, sometimes i get inspired and work a lot in it hah ;w;

but yeah basically, if you feel like it is worth it you could get another cppy.
but if you aren't enjoying playing in your town and you don't want o get anothef copy it could be a good idea to reset. if you can have someone hold some items for you it wont be as hard to reset.
