Hiatus recovery tips?

Hello! I've been away from ACNL for a while and don't feel like time traveling back to my hiatus start date... I was wondering, before I face the horror that is my town, if there are any tips for returning to a hiatus? I've probably left it a mess and all my villagers now probably despise me.

Also, what're some ideas for "fresh starts" in my town?

Here's what I would do.

TT back to your hiatus start date.
Use the '2 days' method to get someone to ping. (Or any other Method)
Say no.
Jump to the current time.
Everything in your town should be safe.

Oh, I never knew that! That'd saved me an hour or two if I'd known that two days ago, haha.

Well, technically you'd have a crapload of weeds and a bunch of dead flowers. (Without Beautiful Ordinance) But so far, all my villagers have been safe.

In addition to that, you can always start a new character, then check the map Porter gives you when you leave the train to see if anyone's gone, and then quit without saving, then decide what to do based on that.

Plus bed hair. I have Beautiful Town ordinance and I still get a lot of weeds and bed hair (though no dead flowers) when I play the game with a long time between saves.

This sounds crazy, but what I have done in the past is reset.
That guarantees a fresh start! XD
But I had stuff held, so it wasn't like I was starting from nothing.
