I'm curious how many happy home designers like to reorganize their own homes/rooms in real life, how many DIY and such, and how many just get their fix from the game.
I bring this up because I moved in with my hubby about two months ago and have been in need of fixing up everything in our home. HHD kind of inspires me, but it is pretty different from real life. The animals in the game only need to incorporate a couple items, whilst I have quite a bit more "necessary" items to keep with no place to put them.
In-game is certainly easier. I recently decided I didn't like where a book shelf was in a IRL room. I wanted to move it to the other side of the room. That required taking all of the books off the shelf, moving the shelf, then putting the books back.
The advantage of real life though is that you can make things look however you want by either buying things or making it yourself.
I really love both, but I can't pick up or move furniture that's more than 40 lbs, so ingame makes it easier for me to arrange furniture without having to beg someone to help me out. I also don't have my own place yet, so I can't design and arrange kitchens in real life, so it's nice to use HHD to design them.
my parents have furniture showroom & shop and i grew up seeing lots of furniture and how the workers arrange the furniture. it's a tough job since some of the furniture are heavy, some need to be handle with extra care, and so on. So definitely, in game ;D
I kinda like real life better. While I can definitely do a lot more in game, the ease of it is a little boring. I used to flip houses with my dad every summer, so I appreciate how I feel after a long day of hard physical labor. Seeing something come to life IRL due to your own effort is very rewarding to me. Games don't provide the same feeling.
