someone offered a popular villager for adoption > someone started bidding ridiculous amount (500 nmts) > people see this transaction and copies it until it becomes the standard > invites the popular villagers they see on islands/invite via amiibo and sell them online > repeat cycle

basically, there's no other way people would get 1,000-2,000 nmts without getting it from online trading.
add to that, the d*pe glitch had some people drowning in bells so they will obviously win more auctions.
so unless this change, unfortunately i (and most people) won't be able to trade here or at least win auctions. especially because i don't TT or don't cycle villagers quick. i hope this changes in the future. the currency right now is STILL mad.

Currencies naturally devolve, once all the people with ridiculous sums of tickets have gotten the villagers they want, the market will adjust for people who don't have and or aren't willing to pay thousands of tickets for a villager.

yeah, a year after welcome amiibo, you can acquire marshal & beau much cheaper. the difference now is acquiring high number of nmt is unnatural, back then in new leaf it was just bells or tbt. and no doubt about it, it was easier to earn bells there even without trading. and people have been loaded by the time online trading forums were booming.

when will it adjust? we'll see.......... probably when raymold gets an amiibo card

It's frustrating tbh! I keep getting outbid, but I'll keep offering what I think is actually fair/within reason for me to collect on my own.

i've never won a villager bid, hence why i started this thread. i just gave up, though sometimes i still take my chances and post my bid (like, maybe if people are sleeping lol but i doubt that) obviously auctions are going to be like that, but going against unreasonable amounts and some people jumping the bid from let's say 40 nmt to a 100's is rubbing me the wrong way.

i feel like i'm never going to get sherb until he gets an amiibo card. he's so cute :(

Pretty much, yeah. I guess us mortals will have to be patient and hold on a while longer before we can obtain our dreamies. Like there’s no way I’m going to pay 50 NMT for Lily who isn’t even tier 1.

Why do you think I'm on here at 3:40 AM LOL🤦‍♀️
I'm also on Sherbquest 2020, so I feel your pain. He is perfect :(

I know my time would probably be more efficiently spent trying to sell all my own villagers on here and save up tickets, but I don't want to perpetuate the system. I like to just give villagers away to people who are excited about them.

exactly. i can't complain about the system while perpetuating it myself. i invited fauna with that mindset, but i just couldn't do it so she's staying for now LOL. i basically got punchy (my ultimate dreamie) because someone just wanted to help and they said they're happy for people to get their dreamies. i got him so cheap i couldn't believe it, and i believe in good karma so i don't wanna overprice for my villagers.

Keep an eye out on the villager trading board, if you're there at the right time and right place you may be lucky enough to snatch him for a decent price. Not everyone on here is out for making a huge profit, and I believe there are reasonable people who you can trade with.

I personally just can't wait until the amiibo glitches are fixed so all the people on here with full amiibo card sets, or even partial amiibo card sets, can absolutely obliterate the god awful prices. That day is going to be a good day.

when we first believed the glitch was finally fixed (last week i think, before new glitches started to get reported again) people already started amiibo villager shops! they just stopped again now though because of the glitches, but i already saw people charging reasonable for their amiibo villagers, so yes that day is going to be a good day!

see you're right:

Oh, I wish I’d seen this earlier... I just sold my Sherb for 35 NMT’s. That seems like a reasonable price you guys mightve been after

Absolutely! I managed to snatch both Julian AND Diana from an amiibo cycling island for 4 tickets each, I couldn't believe it. They were super nice about it 💝 They are closed now though, as they want to make sure all the bugs are gone before taking orders, which makes total sense. The faithful day we get a patch with the glitches gone will be a great day indeed.

I sold my last sherb for like 20nt
I’d rather sell him to someone who has them as their dreamie for cheap

right? it only takes effort now to move villagers in because of the 3 day thing, but people who have shops will TT anyway, and they have the cards so they can keep that shop running. nintendo just needs to fix this glitch asap. some people with glitched plots are giving up and time traveling to free the plot rather than wait for the fix. i'm thankful my plot didn't glitch despite the villager being forced kicked.

i wonder if the coding for this is complicated? idk a thing about coding, but they seem to be able to fix all the glitches so quick except for this one? it's still a mystery as to what triggers it because the glitch have so many variations.

I agree! I had 200 NMT saved and 150K NM points saved, but I haven't used a single one to bid on villagers. It's just.. It doesn't seem worth it to me at all LOL. Losing sooo much tickets just for 1 villager? I could scower 100+ islands and meet them plus others I want. No thanks. It's an absolute waste! I think at most villagers should sell for 50. Of course, whoever wants to pay more and you're selling/i'm selling, I'll take it. But do I think it's worth it? No. But if you do, then heck. I'll take the tickets then.
