Help!

Hey TBT. Recently I bought the Call of Duty War Pack on Steam containing CoD 1, 2, and United Offensive. Anyway, i tried doing multiplayer on 1 and UO, and I was prompted to enable something called PunkBuster. I was told that it eliminates hacking on the game, so I turned it on. Afterwards, the screen went dark and I couldn't see a thing. I tried restarting the computer and even reinstalling the game, and nothing. It's still dark. I can't see anything, but I can hear the sound of the mouse going over the buttons if I move it around. My questions are...
1. How do I turn off PunkBuster?
2. Is there a way to make it so PunkBuster won't ruin my game?
3. If I can't turn off PunkBuster, can I return my game to Steam, or is there something else I can do?

The same thing happened to me with America's Army 3. I had to go to my firewall settings and Virus scanner and allow, "PUNKBUSTER22" or something along the lines of that. I think they have a help section on their website, so just google Punkbuster.

1. You don't want to turn off Punk buster unless you hack
2. Punk buster wont ruin your game
3. I dunno if you can return it

Punk buster is just a program that works with the game servers to find out if you are Hacking/Cheating. You can play in game servers that do not have Punk Buster installed. I been playing COD And CODUO for many years now since '04 I always play on Punk Buster servers. When you install the game make sure you say yes to everything...allow punk buster to go though the firewall and such. If you still have problems download the updater from http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php

Sorry to double post but I need more help. Whenever I try to join a punkbuster server, the screen goes dark again. I believe it's my firewall/anti virus program thing, but I have no idea how to allow that and only that to go through without disabling my firewall. Any help?

Go to Control Panel --> System and Security --> Allow a program through Windows firewall.
Then make sure PnkBstrA and PnkBstrB are checked.

That's just what they're called on my computer. They might be PUNKBUSTER, or something like that on yours.
