I'm not sure where to post this. So I'm sorry if it's in the wrong place.

But I'm wanting to transfer my town from my regular 3ds to my 3ds xl

So would I just do the system transfer and then put my old SD card in the new one? I'm not sure what to do and I just don't want to lose the town I've had since the game was released. Any help will be appreciated.

Well, the town itself is stored on the game cartridge itself; or do you have the game downloaded on your 3DS?

Ah, then I won't be much help. I believe the data is stored on the SD card, and I think you're right about the system transfer. However, you should talk with someone who knows about this before you do it.

You could take it to GameStop and see if they know.

I always go to Nintendo's official site and follow their guidelines for doing things like this.

I'm pretty sure there's a way to transfer cartidge to digital maybe it goes the same for digital to cartridge? D: Something to do with the codes? I would have to call or visit a shop Dx
