I'm really really new to the villager reset trick for house placement. I just want to confirm some things.
I received my 10th villager from another town by talking to them in boxes. I time traveled the next day at 11 am-ish and saw the house placement, which I do not like. I haven't saved yet, so if I log out, will it still be placed there? I know you need to make a new character for the trick but I'm just so lost @_@

If they're in a spot you don't like just exit to the home screen and make another new character. Sometimes they'll plot in the same spot multiple times but just keep repeating it until they get in a spot you like

Unfortunately it'll still be there. If you're expecting a plot to be laid out, you have to create a new character and log in with them. If you don't like the placement, you have to continue logging in with a new character until it's where you like.

Alright, I wasn't sure, because I logged on my main character and I know it'll be "set" if you log in and save on your main.

It's set if you log into your main period. When you log in with your main character, the town is both created and saved. This happens when Isabelle does her spiel. Notice how the little spinning icon that indicates that your town is being saved appears? It still saves even though you didn't go to Start and press "Save and Quit."

You'd have to log in as a new character for the first time you play the game for the day, before you use any existing characters. In this case, your town truly isn't saved (go through the new character sequence; notice that you don't get a saving icon until you get the TPC), which is why the trick works.
