Before you read on, two words: NO RESETTING.

I'm trying to make a town theme. The top is going to be everything good, all my players live there, lots of trees, no weeds or clovers, cool and clean. But the bottom is going to be everything dark. Hardly anyone lives there, all trees cut down, covered in weeds and clovers, creepy and messy.

Any tips to help me that are completely free? If you're confused, here's my town motto: "Where there is extreme happiness there is a hidden and deep sadness." (Because if you're unbelievable happy most of the time it's because you don't want to be sad.)

Notice: I cannot add villagers to my town by choice. And I'm too tied up to plot reset when there is a house plot.

Well, you could TT to 2034 and get a bunch fo weeds. Then just pluck them where you want it to be clean.
Thats all i could think of atm

Get a rafflesia in the dark side. Put some creepy or dark villagers down there. Make the perfect fruit trees lose their leaves

I like planting trees that are from your perfect fruit. When you've harvested from them enough times you get one spoiled fruit, 2 good and all the leaves fall off from the tree. That's what I did for the haunted forest. The effect is quite good!

Put Roscoe and Rodeo in the dark/bottom part! Also, you could do organized flowers/bushes/paths in the top part, and have the path gradually become sparse then disappear in the bottom part.

and you...

Well, since you don't want trees in the bottom half, there's the shanty exterior and door that's available for one character's house. ( I noticed you said that hardly anyone lived down there, so maybe just make the one.) You could do the interior with boxes and broken posts and the ramshackle wallpaper flooring. You could dress your character all in black - have him wear the jester's mask so he is faceless and name him "nobody" or "sorrow".

I would put cutesy villagers like Apple, Rosie, Cookie, etc. on the happy side and creepy villagers like Lucky, Rodeo, Coco, etc. on the dark side. You said no trees, but if you use the right trees, it will make it seem much creepier, like a haunted forest.

You're forgetting something. Again.

It would be this.

Edit: I tried to delete this post. I didn't realize how young you were. I wish you well with your town and I sincerely hope you find someone to give you the advice you want to hear.

If you want the bottom to be kinda empty but avoid plot resetting, you would need to strategically place creepy pwp around 5 spaces horizontally/vertically to block villager move-ins. Sadly, that prevents your bottom half from being completely empty.. You can try scarecrows and the fence filled with tombstone patterns.

The dead trees would look good, actually. I know you want all trees cut down but a few ones that are just barren without any leaves would add to the theme. If you already know what you're planning to do and you're just going to be rude to anyone who suggests something I don't see why you're asking in the first place.
