Help 3ds notice popped up when starting NL about spot pass..tech question

Ok so I have one ds I use currently and multiple cart towns, when I first got the machine I got an e gift card so downloaded harvest moon and some others but haven't played them yet...So I put in one of my carts I turned the wifi on for one second only, went to start the game and got the following message

"There does not seem to be extra data setup for spot pass so we will go ahead and recreate extra save data now..I freaked out, all my cart games are played on this machine so far...my machine took a fall recently so I powered off quickly made sure the sd was secure and restarted and it did not pop up again...but I do not use a lot of features at all outside the cart so no way my ds is full..I have an unused spare and an 8gb that was given to me for new machine if wanted and an offer of a clean 32 if wanted it but this machine I don't want to mess up or lose anything..If it wiped my data or the games I bought long ago that's losing money and things...so am hoping it fixed itself when I powered off and re secured the sd..no idea what recreating would do or mean and don't want a larger ds until know how to do it right likely with new machine. not this one. If my downloaded games are missing I assume something happened but when I restarted I didn't get this.

I only use it for acnl carts right now and my sd can't be full so not sure why it would say not detecting spot pass but when said recreating extra data I powered off. Any idea what that would do? Sorry if didn't explain right, am a little freaked out about to make sure my downloads still pop up but have never seen this before.

Uh, sometimes when the yellow lever on the sd card is pulled down I get a message like that. But you had so many random details in your description that I'm not sure we experienced the same thing. I honestly don't even know what happened.

I'm not positive but I think that happens when A) You have registered multiple games to receive Spotpass / Streepass, and the system gets confused, or B) You put in a cartridge for the second? first? time in the DS and it wants to create Spotpass / Streetpass data.

Again, not sure, but I'm assuming that's the error message you got!

EDIT: (about your multiple SD cards) I've also used upgraded SD cards for a while now, and I love them. I've yet to see a problem, although I know plenty of people complain of them glitching. That was actually why I got a new SD card: the factory original was acting up and a fresh one fixed all the issues! So if you can use a ready 32GB, and you like downloading your games, I highly recommend it!

Thanks for the advice on the sd cards, am going to look into that definitely that was kind of a separate issue. Again I understand the confusion, I was freaked out about losing data on the immediate so it over complicated the situation. Will look into a larger for the new and for the old when sure won't lose any downloads if need be.

Apparently, it seems to be as easy as the first responder noted, the ds had been dropped a while back. When the message popped I shut off and made sure the sd card was secure and closed and all that and didn't get a repeat message, I haven't turned my wifi back on but it appears to be as simple as not deleting old Nintendo messages or the sd being a little loose on that close tab.
