What happens when you use a secondary copy of a game (e.g. Tomodachi Life) on the same 3DS? Does it affect anything?

I have two physical copies of New Leaf on my second 3DS XL (second and cycle town) and nothing has been affected. I think altering the 3DS clock might cause issues, I use the in game clock for my cycle town, but other than that I think it's perfectly fine :).

In the case of Tomodachi Life, moving one game card from a 3DS to another will trigger penalties that you normally encounter by changing your system's clock. To get rid of those, you simply need to wait a day or two.

I've been seriously wondering about this. I'm more concerned about what happens if you have a digital and physical copy though, rather than two physical copies, since I know tons of people on these forums have multiple cartridges... but I don't think I've heard of anyone swapping between a digital and physical version of the game. Assuming New Leaf is even available digitally - I haven't checked :x

ACNL is available on the eShop, but the data of each copy is saved separately. Whatever you do on one copy does not affect the other at all, no matter the game.

Ooh, thank you! Might go ahead and grab a second copy after all, in that case. I didn't want to get two physical copies for fear of losing one somewhere or forgetting which town was on which one, lol. Very good to know!
