Has this happened to anyone else?

So tonight I started playing ACNL for a couple of hours and I completed a few favours for some villagers and got Midge's picture... Finally!!
I also got a new badge from Phineas, went to the island and went to the shops.
I had to go do the dishes so I shut my 3DS so it went on standby, when I reopened it AC was closed and I didn't even get to save it so everything I did tonight went down the drain including Midge's picture :/
Has this happened to anyone else?

I'm sorry to hear that :c I always try to remember to save frequently (I've made my fair share of not saving mistakes). Only similar situation I had was I played an hour or so and rearranged/organized my town and house when my 3ds fell off my bed and the cartridge popped out. Luckily no damage, just me not being motivated enough to do everything all over again.
