Has this ever happened to anyone?

I had Punchy as a villager a while ago, he has since moved out, but when he was living in my town he asked me to bury a time capsule. Opening the game right now, I just got a letter from him (he moved out like 3 weeks ago) asking for me to dig up the time capsule saying I can keep whatevers inside. I didn't know you could get letters from a villager that moved away lol?

That's the exception. After villagers move, that's the only way they can send a letter.
