What are your opinions on hacking ACNL?
personally, I have in the past but stopped because it wasn't as fun as earning the items, achievements, etc
i think playing the game as is (though I tt) is more fun tbh

No prob. To be honest, I have no idea to what to extent hacking is allowed to be discussed because techinically you are just asking peoples opinions on it, not how to do it yourself. So that might be allowed. I dont know either. Ive just seen threads in the past where people are discussing hacking and people are like we arent allowed to discuss that.

I don't know, it seems boring to me? The biggest appeal of animal crossing (for me) is to have a 100% chill game I can just play to relax. If I have time to farm bells I can, if I feel like working on my paths I can, if not, I can water the plants, check up on my villagers and it will be fine. The RNG is annoying at times, but it's part of the 'casual' and random nature of the game and I think without it I would get really bored.

Still, I don't mind if others DO hack, as long as it's not on the island or in someone elses town. Your card, your life. I like my game my way, but some people really find a lot of joy in doing weird things with the river and obtaining that 'perfect town'. Which is fair enough really, all boils down to preference.

First of all, I think this is more of a grey-area to discuss. I don?t see why it shouldn?t be allowed to use a program on a game you own - the only issue is describing of how you get to that state because you could do illegal things with it. But otherwise I don?t see why mentioning hacking or the program itself is an issue (besides the obvious risks involved, I get that people don?t want to advocate it for that reason)

Now what I think about it in general...well, I?m very happy that it exists.
Sure its another tool for people to ruin other people?s fun by corrupting their safes. But as long as everyone is responsible and people don?t allow complete strangers to walk around in their town unattended, I don?t see any harm comming from it.
I?m happy to know that there is an option for me to rename my mayor or relocate a premanent PWP without deleting my town if I ever wanted that.
Being able to "hack" the game comes with much more freedom but also responsibility. Nintendo?s restrictions on your gameplay are gone, you can change your character?s face, you can rename your town, you can remove a permanent PWP or even do extreme things like changing your map - but of course you have to accept the risks involved and backup your save file each time. And most importantly, you have to be mature about it and don?t use this new freedom to play mean pranks on others who trust you!

i love hacking and im glad people have found ways to do it and get extremely creative with it. i think a lot of people get to fussy about it, and i think you should let people hack if they want to. i personally used to hack but ive started over and kept hacking to a minimum, to enjoy the game more.

I don't care if people hack but the vast majority of hacked towns I've seen don't look any better than the best non-hacked towns I've visited.It's almost always stuff in the river and junk on the beach.I think it's far more of a challenge and an accomplishment to create something exceptional within the parameters of what the game gives you.

See that's what I thought. hence my second response saying I think this thread was okay since she was asking a question and not actually asking how to hack. It's kind of confusing and like a user said before it's a grey area. Thanks for clearing this up.


Anyways, I will answer this question because I don't think I did. I'm indifferent towards hacked towns. What people do in their own towns is their business. I personally would never hack my town, I prefer to play a game the way it's meant to be played and not manipulate it a certain way by hacking it. But that's just me. Also, too many risks and it might ruin the fun, like buying a lot of bells you didn't earn. (That happened to me once....never again lol)

i guess i'll say more on this but, i love to hack because it adds possibilities that aren't otherwise possible (changing your name, moving permanent pwp's) but i also think working for your town and making an effort to have a pretty town is something that you can feel very proud of and it's worth it to me. hacking is extremely easy now and almost everyone can do it and i think if people want to hack, they should. i dont want to be the one to hate on people who hack because i dont think it ruins anyone elses fun, but hacking to make your experience better is fine with me.

I'm honestly happy that people can get as creative as they'd like. I always enjoy visiting hacked dream towns and seeing what they've done. People can play however they'd like, I don't wanna ruin their vibe. I've always wanted to but I'm scared, lmaooo. Besides the point. Moral of the story is play how you want! There's no right or wrong in this game.

a lot of people lose their town because they do silly things with hacking, or they don't know how to do it properly. if you read up on what you're doing, and follow instructions carefully, you can hack just fine without having your town corrupted. (you should always keep a town backup if you want to hack. people who don't have a backup can't complain if they lose their town.) the people who can hack, and know what they're doing can do impressive stuff and make beautiful towns. it's always impressive.

I have mixed feelings about hacking.
One one hand, I like hacking, because you can change the whole town layout, have your dream villagers you always wanted, and have all the items! People seem to really like hackers and their ability to generate anything into ACNL.
But on the other hand, I don't really like it that much, since it takes all of the purpose of the game away, like you can just generate all the stuff and not work hard to earn it.
