Grass Growth & Patterns on the Ground

I would like to finally put down some paths to help slow the unsightly grass wear that develops over time from just walking anywhere & everywhere in town , however I have read a lot of conflicting info regarding this subject, and would appreciate if anyone could share their very own path & grass experiences here, not so much what you read works, more what actually worked for you.

I read that if you put paths down that the grass under the paths will not wear down with use, but what about the path itself when it is removed, does it not do damage, like when you remove a house ?

Would I be better off planting flowers on dirt patches & water them a lot to encourage grass growth ?

Please post what you have done & what you found to be the most beneficial to making grass grow faster and not wear so fast, thank you.

Grass wear only happens in areas you walk a lot. So let’s say you place paths down on the area you want to “patch up” to indicate where not to walk, then yes, over time it will begin to grow back in that spot. Just make sure you don’t walk there anymore. I think just leaving it alone is good during rainy seasons. Grass grows faster after it rains. You can try planting flowers and watering it but you still gotta walk over there to water them, so in my experience I like to just leave it alone and let it grow back naturally. Both watering the area and leaving it alone will take time though, so you’ll only really notice a difference after a month or so. It’s really irritating growing grass back, so sometimes even just covering the area with flowers is just the more aesthetically pleasing option lol.

I agree, it is so annoying how easy the grass wears down in ACNL, I don't think it was ever this bad in previous versions of the game, and I hope they address this issue in the future, or at least give us options - like grass seed that you can purchase and use would be the perfect solution.

Of course, you can always time travel one month exactly ahead, load, save, and then travel back to where you were.

If you do this immediately after a villager pings you about moving (and say no, of course), you don't have to worry about anyone taking off!

The most frustrating thing, to me, is that paths cannot go all the way up to doorways. I can't use them for that reason alone. I've tried to find paths that look good (preferably year-round, because you cannot perfectly blend them with the grass). So I just let nature run its course.

That really works ? For some reason I always assumed that time travelling would ware it down more.

I think I saw in other threads that it matters where you walk every thime you load the game. It was definitely like that in CF (people looked at the code). So by that logic, you would just have to reload the game, save and then repeat that a couple of times, to reduce wear on grass. I can?t tell you for sure if that?s the case in NL too, but leaving an area alone for some time should be equal to using TT. If it works simmilar to growing weeds, it would be more effective to TT a few days at a time. You could try out what works better. But be sure to make preparations to not loose hybrids or dreamies during all the TT.
