I read somewhere, I think more than one source, that anytime you load up your town, every single tile of grass deteriorates a tiny bit (only by one point or so). Is this actually true? If so, that's a janky mechanic...

Considering my grass deteriorate no matter what I do, flowers, paths, not running etc. I say that is true. esp. starting a new day. It balds a random spot and it drives me loco.

I can't source this but i was sure I read that that was only the case in City Folk and NL made it every day instead.

Honestly I hope we go back to no grass deterioration in the next game and have some way to plant and cut grass as we want.

That would be great! I've had some grass grow back slowly but I've also had more deterioration, and it's frustrating. If we were actually the mayor in a real life town we'd be able to use our public works budget to pay landscapers to seed and mow the grass and so on.

That's right! And also it would make for a lot of variety in towns. You could make a whole desert or a lush green field town, or have your residential areas with no grass.

For some reason all the grass right outside my house just decided to off itself I'm going insane

when i make huge time skips (1+ months) most of the grass is back, but that's obviously too risky for those without amiibos to try just to fix their town's appearance. ive been time traveling a LOT lately and i have huge swaths of dirt all over town now. it's so ugly T_T

When I first started, I didn't even know grass deterioration was a thing. I happily went about my business watering flowers, shaking trees, hitting rocks and searching for fossils. I must have walked over every inch of my town 3-4 times a day minimum.

Then, one day I noticed my whole town was practically dirt. I was so upset. It was late fall and I read that snow would help it grow back, so I patiently waited for winter. I also laid down paths even though I really didn't want to just to cover the horrible eyesore.

The snow came and it did start filling in some areas, but not nearly enough. I had already limited my play, not logging in more than once a day. I had the Beautiful Town Ordinance so I was only watering my hybrids. But my town still felt like a wasteland.

Then, I found out that spring was like a reset. I'd have a chance to start over with fresh grass. Since then, I've moved all my breeding hybrids to the beach, buried the fossils/pitfall on the beach so they won't respawn because I got all the fossils for my museum, stopped shaking trees and looking for the money rock, and almost always stick to walking only on my paths. That's the only thing that worked for me.

Now I have nice natural paths going with stepping stones and I didn't even have to try. I got them just by walking around town like normal. But I've had to give up a lot of the things that make AC feel like AC to me. It wasn't a trade I wanted to make, but I couldn't stand looking at my dirty town anymore.

That makes me so sad. :(

i heard it was just every day, too, i think. but also that seems weird because then wouldn't people with old towns just not have grass at all? i wish my grass would deteriorate faster i run on my paths all the time and nothing

I think one of the most annoying parts for me is that I'm trying to get natural dirt paths but those are taking forever to deteriorate while my gardens are all deciding to die...
