i can def help you understand how trading and currency works here.
first off, we call the currency here “tbt”. it says “bells” on your profile which is what tbt, or the currency of this site is. tbt is used for many things here, some of those things being:
- trading: either in-game items, or site related things such as collectibles
- purchasing collectibles or items from the shop
- some people open up shops; in-game shops, art shops, design shops, etc.
- some people start auctions for things such as villagers
- some people hold giveaways or contests
many people here look for tbt for their services, as we tend to use it for a lot of other things. others may look for in-game items or bells. it’s just a matter of preference, but you’ll find that most people here generally look for tbt.
how do you get tbt, you ask? there’s a number of ways, some being:
- posting on threads: whenever you post, you get a few tbt. the longer the posts, the more tbt you get. however, boards such as The Introduction Board and The Basement will never give you tbt for posting.
- trading threads: people on here are always looking for something, so if you have any in-game items or services you can provide, then you can sell them for tbt. as stated above, you can open up a shop or an auction.
- contests and giveaways: also stated above, people hold contests and giveaways every once in a while, usually in the TBT Marketplace or The Basement.
- events: the forum mods usually host events during special occasions. the prizes usually vary from tbt or different types of collectibles. during a big event, we get something called “event currency” which is a currency that is only obtained from that event, and can only be used when that event is taking place. you can use the event currency to buy exclusive event collectibles. make sure to use it all up during the event though because after that, it’s gone!
you probably don’t know what collectibles are, so here’s a brief explanation. do you see the little icons of items below (or beside) my avatar? those are called collectibles. a lot of people collect them, hence the name collectibles. you can find them in the shop, which is the bell bag placed at the top of the site, or if you’re on pc, it simply says “shop”. you can also find certain ones during events, but you’ll need to participate in the events to receive them. collectibles are purchased with tbt. people sell many different types of collectibles for tbt in the
TBT Marketplace.
