I just now found out that tomorrow is the start of a new month, which means fishes and bugs are going in and out of season. Us in the North Hemisphere will be bidding farewell to those creepy crawlies we loved so much since the release of the game and will be welcoming in scorpions on our islands, while those in the Southern Hemisphere will be getting the tarantulas instead of the scorpions. A bittersweet farewell.
This is also a warning to those that have a phobia for either one of those creatures, so stay cautious when playing at night.

Now here are the lists for what is going in and out of season...

Going out of season:

North
South
Blue Marlin
Angelfish
Dab
Betta
Tuna
Catfish
Tarantula
Moray Eel
Rainbowfish
Ribbon Eel
Snapping Turtle*
Tilapia
Darner Dragonfly
Ladybug
Man-Faced Stink Bug
Mantis
Red Dragonfly
Scorpion
Stinkbug
Tiger Beetle
Yellow Butterfly

* I’m getting different answers whether or not they went out of season already, but either way, these bad boys are gone in May.

Thank you for this! Even though I use an app to help with the availability of the critters, most people don't use one, so this thread is very helpful.

Here in the south, we'll be losing a lot of bugs and fish. I'll be looking forward to catching all the new critters asap.

Just a correction - afaik: the snapping turtle was already out of season on the south since April 1.

More like good riddance. Thank goodness I won't have to deal with creepy crawlers that'll randomly attack me for having my net out while they're not even in my view, haha, right?

Scorpion (7pm-4am | ground)

thank you for the guide, definitely looking forward to being able to catch a scorpion and completing my "things that'll hurt ya" collection! also excited to grind a bunch of fish bait for those pier fish

also gotta say it didn't really dawn on me that may meant different bugs and fish - all i was thinking was may day, rover, and pondskaters lol

It actually didn't dawn on me that tomorrow is the start of a new month. Thank you for posting this! I'm very excited to try to catch some new bugs and fish ^-^

Thanks for the correction! Knew I must've gotten one wrong while looking at such a large list of bugs and fish haha. ^^

try catching on the dock or around the dock as that’s where they’re commonly caught, as well as prepping a lot of fish bait since that increases your chances as well!

Does anyone know if there are bugs that show up exclusively on Palm tree stumps like in new leaf? Or are they only on hardwood/cedar stumps this time?

Craft lots and lots of bait and skip over all the small shadows to save time. The pier, airport dock on your island and the dock on an island tour will spawn them.

looks like i failed to catch my blue marlin aha, but i’m pretty sure they’ll come back in july! i caught some tunas though!

hooray for froggies

As far as I've seen in the app, it appears that some beetles only appear on palm trees, but not specifically on palm tree stumps

Thank you so much for the advice! Will definitely be doing that today (:

Heya, south islander here - for us, snapping turtles were still in season in April, so they actually should be on the list for going out of season.

I love scorpions, I just hope I can find one, since they decreased the spawn rates I haven't been able to find a tarantula and I could never find them or scorpions in the older games

Man I never managed to catch a Tuna or a Blue Marlin :/ guess I'll have to try again whenever they come back in season.
