Golden Rod and Net

Does anyone know what these tools do? Or are they just gold, with no special upgrade from the regular fishing rod and net?

The Golden Rod gives you more time to react when a fish bites while the Golden Net has a larger catching radius.

They have a bigger 'reach' so fish will come to them easier (rod) or make it easier to catch bugs (net) I'm pretty sure.

Yup everyone above is right. The rod gives you more time to catch it, they also notice the Bob easier, while the net has a bigger catching range/radius

The golden rod and net makes you have a better chance of catching bugs and fish.
