For the past few months, every sig I've tried to make turned out horribly. The background turns out fine, I just have problems getting the render to match the background (sometimes the text)....
I've looked for some good tutorials, but couldn't find any.

It doesn't matter. Sometimes I use GIMP, sometimes PS.
