Glitch - receiving DIY from villager outside?

Hi all!

I was visiting my friends island and went around greeting all her villagers. Her Sherb was outside and gave me the crafting dialogue as well as a diy. Has this happened to anyone else?

My friend chatted with him and said he had normal dialogue.

Not that, but other people have reported villagers giving crafting dialog inside their house, but not crafting anything.

What DIY was it?

Wasn't there a spot early on in the game where you get some basic DIY from villagers walking outside? Leaf umbrella or something. I wonder if it maybe glitched relating to that somehow.​

It was a deer decoration, so not basic. That would be interesting to look into. I know the leaf umbrella didn't give crafting dialogue, rather it was a "oh here you go! learn this because its raining!"
