Honestly though - villagers will take anything you give them. So if you want to give them something in particular then go for it. I never use the guides and just give what I feel will work with their house as it stands from whatever I have on me that day.

I learned that friendship doesn't raise if you don't give them their favorite gifts, so I would personally use a guide--but then again, I am kinda crazy to earn my villagers pics.
Either way, with or without guide, is perfectly fine.

Use the guides and wrap the gift! I have Fang's on the 18th and Blanche has hers on the 21st. I'll just order something on the guide and make sure I have it in time for their parties.
