i took a..uncomfortable amount of time of a break from both my towns. both because of life and just general lack of desire to play. i'm scared to go back to my towns but i want to play, especially because the full announcement of nh resparked my desire to play my towns again until release. how have you dealt with this after any type of substantial break from playing? how did you get back into your old usual routine?

It's all about setting goals that you actually feel you want to achieve.

If you didn't complete your encyclopedia, now is the PERFECT time to do so before the game releases! Maybe you want to collect MEOW coupons? Collect more medals? Collect all of your dream villagers' pictures? Brainstorm different things then go after them!

I do this too often... I usually come back to see where I left off afraid that all my villagers are gone

After playing for 3 years straight, I had to take a break. Now I play when that little voice in my head starts screaming at me to play at least one of my towns. When the urge settles down and I take another sabbatical I ALWAYS make sure one of the villagers has pinged me to move out, I tell them nope don't even think about it. This way I know I can leave my town without fear of someone moving out.

I give myself the small goal of making sure I speak to one villager a day and dig up my fossils. After a few days, I usually find that my urge to do other things like interior design has come back. Basically, it's whatever I end up feeling enthusiastic about doing, so that I'm not just forcing myself.

I have three towns; my first town and main being created back in 2013. So, I've honestly taken quite a few breaks on and off. Some sort and some long. I just returned back to playing since Jan of 2018 lol. Definitely been a minute.

I just always check my log for when I last played. Then I make sure to start on that date. I'll wait for someone to ask to move, tell them no, and then do a big time jump to the current date. Then I just play from there and carry on as usual. :)

I think in hindsight that taking breaks has been good. Each time I come back I feel like the direction I move forward with my towns gets better. Sometimes that means making major changes and sometimes just small ones.

But it's been extremely sentimental to my original town and see how it's come along from 2013 to now. And it's still in progress lol. I would say this time around, I'm being more active about my encyclopedia and paying attention to what's available to catch in the current time/season.
I also just give myself a section to work on at a time and build from that outwards. So, my landscaping is really coming along in that sense and the same goes for one character's house theme at a time.

Good luck and welcome back. :)

I always write down the last time I played, at least the month. I stopped after Halloween last year then picked it back up about a month ago and just played catch up so none of my dreamies would leave! I just reorganize my closet and stuff to see where I'm at with decorating and stuff :)

Setting new goals for yourself is good. I took a really long break (about a year) until a few months ago.
I didn?t lost any villagers thankfully, but I decided to browse dream towns and Pinterest threads for inspiration. I got ideas to re-vamp my town into a new style and just set my mind to it (based on ideas I got looking at other people?s cool stuff!). I also decided to pursue my favorite villagers and change my town to an all-cat town The game gets a lot more fun when you set goals for yourself and gift away the things you don?t need. I had a natural town before, but I?m recreating it entirely and now the game feels refreshing, and I like it even more now than before I took a break. I recommend browsing other people?s dream towns, designs, and Pinterest boards for inspiration! ;)

I have this problem too... haven?t played since last year as I?ve been so busy with exams, but since NH has been announced I?ve recently been so hooked to playing again. I think you?ve just got to be brave and turn on your game again expecting things to not be how you left them (you?re usually pleasantly surprised!). After that I just give myself mini goals I want to achieve so that I?m not so overwhelmed that I lose interest again.
