GDC

Well unfortunately I am really only looking for a summer thing, which boils down to internships which there are few, and still pretty hard to get. As it is I just don't have anything that great to show. I might be able to get a job game testing at Nintendo though. the guy at the booth gave me his own personal card when I mention that, and the fact that I am literally across the highway from them.

Hmm lot has happened since last post. Lets see, I went to a couple parties yesterday. Nvidea had one that I luckily heard about in time to register. Free food and open bar... though slightly sad that they actually hired models to just be in the crowd...
It was a good party though talked with people from capcom and a few other places. Left there to go to a Nordic Games party and my lucky day got in line right behind Notch, entirely random, this was after minecraft had just won the indy award thing too. Got his business card lol. Also got to see him again today, around the minecraft demo. Anyway left the Nordic games party to go back to the one with free drinks pretty fast, that and it is a bit harder to get into conversations when half are in a foreign language. ummm I got to try some other indy games, Nidhogg is a fun one :-p
Got to try kid icarus, seems pretty awesome really. It looked pretty good on the 3ds actually.
Saw Portal 2 being played with a weird new Razer motion controller... looks like extra stuff is being added for having it... not to sure if it really plays that well though, I couldn't try it, it was just some guy at the thing doing it.

Really I think next year will be better for me on the job market, only cause then I will be saying I will be graduating more or less. Getting something would be good for now though.

Sounds awesome. I'm going to need a job soon too!

Well GDC is over, time to head back up to Redmond. Still it was a fun week. Last day I spent with a different attitude. Rather than trying to look for jobs or internships available just looked at what was being offered to devs. Saw some interesting stuff, everything from engines to modeling things, to hosting services available, to even something meant to get you access to a users location on a mobile device if you were to make an app that used where they physically were.

Just cool to talk with people who's work I might actually know. I also met Notch though briefly, which was a goal I wanted to get done.

Found out that if you are trying to get into the industry or are in the industry this event can offer cool things or lame things, dependent on what you pursue. Parties at night are fun, just make friends with the right people to get in.

I did randomly recommend a friend to Blizzard, they get a lot of applicants, but if talking with that lady was a tie breaker for him, I feel good. I didn't apply, I don't stand a chance. My friend though really wants to get in there spent most of the week around their booth, and really is one of the better programmers in our class I believe. I did tell him I did that, just said get me swag if you get in lol. As usual though, my luck is a great thing, the person I talked to was the person who talked to him, recognized the name even. I left with a good vibe there, so at least I didn't hurt his chances.

In the end, I had a good time, learned some about the industry, and though the memories will fade to distant stars in my mind there will still be some gems of moments I can hold onto and remember.... and some swag :-p
