So right now Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) is streaming their marathon of speedruns for charity. I've been tuning into their events for a few years now and they're always a joy to watch because I love the concept of speedrunning, but since this particular event raises money for charity, they're usually met with huge praise and very good reception. Does anyone else watch either AGDQ or SGDQ in the summer? Have you ever made a donation? What kinds of games do you look forward to watching from their schedule?

I basically just want a thread to discuss everything about it! Tell me your experiences and things.

If you've never watched before but are curious, you can find the channel here.

I'll usually tune in whenever I have my PC on, sometimes it's just good background noise if I'm not too interested in the current game, but there are some particular runs that I look forward to every event. Some of my favourites are the Zelda and Metroid runs, and I always try to stay awake for the Super Metroid finale. It's pretty cool to see how the speedrunning community has evolved and expanded over the years, there are so many runners now that I'm unfamiliar with so it's cool to see what they bring to the table when it's their time to play. I always think the Mario games are extremely entertaining to watch too, Mario Maker is especially funny, though sadly that does not seem to be on the schedule this time. Maybe during the summer.

I watched Pokemon Emerald tonight. It was pretty neat to see a Pokemon game completed that fast (a little less than 3 hours). It was the first time I actually watched any of GDQ live. I usually have to watch it streaming on YouTube after the fact. I'm hoping to watch more live, but I already know some things I'm going to have to watch after the fact because of the time (hi Jumping Flash 2, being stupidly early in the morning!).

Emerald was pretty great to watch! I didn't get to see the whole thing because it ran late into the night here, but the first part that I saw was really interesting. The Pok?mon runs always have me on the edge because there's so much RNG involved, it's crazy.

I didn't get to see the Hitman run but I seem to remember last year had a particularly hilarious Hitman run too, I wonder if it was the same runner. I might check out the recording later if I get time.

There's a Metroid Prime 2 6% run happening in an hour or so, pretty hyped for that. I caught some of the Katamari run just a moment ago, that game is so bizarre, I had never seen it before lmao.
