I was inside my house rearranging furniture, suddenly a message appears on the screen. it's Gabi asking me to come out and play. i didn't do it right away so another message appeared saying oh well i guess there is no one im going home. i wondered what i missed, maybe Gabi had some gift for me????

Were you not in the main room? Sometimes villagers you are good friends with will randomly pop in to say hello like that. Go to the main room to greet them at the door next time. All they do is wander around the main room a bit and then leave.

This IS an assumption, but you weren't in your main room, were you? If you had gone back to the main room, she would have come in to hang out. If you talk to them when the do that a few times, they'll usually give you some sort of present. Be it a fruit, item, clothing... SOMETHING.

I think so, she's been there since i started my town on release day, but i have not gotten her picture yet.
Ive had this happen a few times. Villagers you are really close with will visit you in your home. If your not in your main room they ask if your home, which is funny since they just barge in lol. You cant go inside their home when they arent home 
but anyways, if you dont go into the main room fast enough they just leave. If you do go in and talk to them they will give you a present. 
Plus I think this increases friendship but Im not sure.
