Friend Tokens for Tri Force Heroes?

Can you really only do it with download play and local play? I was hoping there would be a another way. Since I don't have two others local people to play with.

With the update that came earlier this month, you can buy them for 2,000 rupees after you finish the game. But you can only buy them once a day like he Frilly Fabric and they appear on random days, not every day.

Other than that, Local and Download Play is it.
