Friend finding buried items in her town

Hi! My friend is finding buried items like a birdcage and a shell. Her hubs didn't do it and neither did I. I can't find anything about this on the internet. Could you enlighten my ignorance on how this could happen?

someone (human, in real life) would have had to do it. The npc's won't do it at all. Its possible she is accidentally digging up fossils with full pockets and somehow burying other things if she picks the Swap It option, but I always thought it just dropped the items on the ground. She only does visiting with you and her husband? Maybe her husband is doing it and just won't admit to it?
