Today it is the Fishing tourney and I still didn't complete the full set because Chip is giving me the same items.

Actually I just miss the puffer-fish TV and the red-snapper chair.

I can trade these two items with :

It'll be a bit later that I have the bug off but sure, I'll talk to you in BFC when it has either events or holidays.
And yeah you can join those competitive events at others' town. Actually it's better way to collect items. While you have to keep updating the record to get those items at your own town and hence it's harder, you don't need to when you join the tourney/bug off at other player's town.
What bug off items are you missing btw?
