Fishing tourney December

The fishing tourney is coming again, which is my second tourney. A different aspect from the previous one is that now any type of fish will be accepted. I'm hoping to get some nice fish furnitures and a silver or bronze trophy this time so I'm planning ahead.

What kind of fish will the villagers hand in, do they have access to sharks on the island?
What type of fish are the best concerning size?
If I'm already first place, will I get a furniture piece if I keep handing in bigger fish?

And, in case I happen to win, I'd happily trade my gold trophy for your silver one!

No, as far as I'm aware the villagers don't hand in fishes from the island eg sharks.

In order to get fish furniture, you have to hand in fishes that are larger than average according to their species. Eg if you hand in a large sea bass (and beat the first place), you get given fish furniture. If next, you hand in a shark that is small for its species (but obviously still bigger than the bass), you will just get normal furniture. Catch plenty of sea bass and hand them in according to size, that'll probably be the best way to get plenty of tourney furniture. I wasted plenty of sharks the last time

And the answer to your last question is yes, you'll keep getting furniture, but not necessarily the tourney furniture (as above).

Yep it probably is a guaranteed win, but not guaranteed to get you any fish tourney furniture if that's what you're after

Is there a list of average sizes anywhere? That might be very useful, you can just keep the ones that are larger.

Lucky me, the pond smelt is registered as first place fish. Wont be hard to beat that

I have a question, if there's a 1st, 2nd and 3rd, is it possible to place in more than one?

Also, I didn't know about the different species thing?? So even if the fish you give in isn't THE biggest....if it's bigger than average for the species and biggest out of it's species to be given in, you'll get a prize for that too?

No, you will only the tournament furniture if you beat the record and give him a fish that is quite big for it's species.

Awesome! Well I'm done for the day. Like others have said, worked my way up from around the same size fish as the 1st place contender and gave my biggest whale shark as the last entry. 12 pieces of fish furniture out of it, wooo!

I handed in a Barbel Steed 17.50 and 18.60, and I got a random furniture piece. According to: http://acwiki3ds.wikispaces.com/Fish, their average size is 19.69. When I handed in a Barbel Steed sized 24.15 I got a fish set furniture piece.

Kind of sucky though cause I want a silver or bronze trophy.

So here is my strategy: Wait for 4 pm and check the first place. Mine was 45 inches by Antonio.
Then you go to the island and go crazy. Catch ALL the big fish. But not the big ones since they are sea bass and they suck, lol. Huge, ribbon eels, or sharks only. Keep a list of what you have and make sure you keep them in the right order of size.

Stuff them in the box when your inventory is full. Or qwhen the time hits about 16:45 pm. You need time to hand them over, as well.. Again, keep the suckers ordered.
Empty out your inventory onto your beach and take all the fish. (Right order, lol)

THEN you talk to Chuck. Start with the smallest one. Then the one that is slightly bigger. And repeat. You will get junk. But don't let that stop you!
