Only took about a little over a month and a half, but I finally got my first blue rose!

I could have potentially have gotten it sooner, but I got 'lost' in the middle of the more involved method and I was just like, "eh, I'll start over with a slightly easier but less common method!"

Great way to start off the new month.

Well done!! 🌹
I've got a section in my island simply there for growing hybrids. And I've got a ton of red rose flowers lumped together just spawning other red roses or pink and black roses. Am I doing it correctly or is it just luck?

Congratulations!!! I bet that feels wonderful. I still haven't had such luck, but it's bound to happen eventually.... right?

Congrats on the Blue Rose! I also just got my first Blue Roses after a month and a half. Significantly less painful than the four months it took me in NL thanks to the power of datamining.

I mean... I can't say if you're doing it "correctly" or not because I don't know what you're trying to breed for? If you're trying to breed Blue Roses, then no. The Red Roses that one generally acquires to breed Blue Roses have a specific set of genes that are invisible to the player and require very specific breeding pathways involving multiple generations of offspring; you can't just use seed Red Roses.

Seed Red Roses have a 50% chance of breeding (seed) Red Roses, 25% chance of breeding Black Roses, and 25% chance of breeding Pink Roses. Flowers in the game breed by genotype, not phenotype.

Ouch yeah, I didn't specify I was after blue roses!
Thank you for your helpful reply :) so the more red roses that are bred will eventually hopefully make a blue rose?

Not exactly. In a nutshell, a Red Rose that has the ability to make Blue Roses will have genes from Red, Yellow, and White Roses. In order to get those specific Red Roses, you have to breed all base color Roses together in a controlled manner for best results. If you keep just breeding successive generations of Red Roses from seeds, they'll just always have the "Red Rose gene," so to speak, and not any of the others.

I'd recommend looking at some guides on how the flower genetics work in this game. There should be a link in there to a simulator which lets you input the genes of parents and then spits out the genes of all the offspring which can help you visualize what's going on. And here's a good guide on breeding Blue Roses specifically.

Let me know if you have any other questions! : D

Congrats on blue roses! I was incredibly lucky that my brother had roses as his native so he got me island orange roses DAYS before an update removed them. It still took me a couple weeks to get a blue rose but once that duplicated it spread like wildfire. For my brand new island I just lifted a few from my original island lol

Congratulations on the blue roses. Still trying to get one , I will get one someday.

Thank you so much!! :D
Time to hit the blue roses books 🤣

Congrats that takes some work! i just got a orange rose to grow lol. im gonna try for blue ones too i just need to check out some guides to make sure i do it right and dont waste time with wrong flowers. i think that was my trouble with getting orange ones

Thank you so much!! :D

No worries, best of luck! Again, feel free to message me if you have questions. It can definitely feel overwhelming to learn all this. :'D There are easier pathways to take when breeding Blue Roses, but as you'd expect, they tend to take much longer.

If you haven't already, I'd recommend trying to breed some other hybrids that require 2+ generations of work, such as Green Mums, Purple Windflowers, or Purple Pansies. They can help you practice learning how to manage genes and keeping flowers with the same phenotype but different genotype separate. They're also less convoluted than most Blue Rose paths and also have higher chances than the Blue Roses (6.25% as compared to 1.56%; getting higher percentages for Blue Roses typically requires more precise breeding). Green Mums in particular are good to start with because the path doesn't require any other hybrids; you just need seed Red and Yellow Mums. Purple Windflowers/Pansies both require Blue hybrids to start with.

Congrats!!

I am also trying to get mine...the breeding is soo confusing in this game but I am currently trying via hybrid red rose method and at the moment they aren't producing anything.

Congrats on the blue rose @Khaelis ! I got my first one about three and a half weeks ago and now I'm up to 15 blue roses. Thank goodness for cloning. What method did you use? I tried doing the Folklore method before realizing some of the purple roses I was using were contaminated with a shade gene and ultimately ended up with a blue rose using the Asteriation method with a cesspool.

It depends on how you got the hybrid red roses. If you're talking about one of the methods that produce the lowest value red rose that can produce a blue rose (1110), those red roses have only a 1 in 64 chance of producing a blue rose so there's no way to know for sure until you get really lucky and get the blue rose. So all you can do is keep breeding. If you're getting orange roses, you're probably on the right track. If you're using the orange + purple method to get hybrid red roses, then half of your red roses will have no shot of producing a blue rose so you'll just have to breed a lot of those hybrid reds and hope you hit on two good ones. If you're using a more reliable method to get hybrid red roses like the Asteriation 1010 red + seed yellow or 1011 pink + seed yellow, then you know your hybrid reds are good and you just have to keep trying. You can improve your odds by taking any red, orange, or black offspring from those hybrid reds, cloning them, and breeding them with their clones to potentially have genetically superior pairs with a better chance of producing a blue rose.

congrats, I have no patience for trying for flowers. All my hybrids cam from me just letting them go wild on my island till now xD

I only got my first one a couple of weeks ago too. I have 3 now in total.

I used the orange and purple method, I don't remember the beginning stages it was so long ago. But I was convinced I had done it wrong, so kept waiting for the seeds to be available to buy so I could start over from scratch using a guide, then suddenly one appeared before I had a chance.

Edit: Wait, a month and a half? It took me from March 20th lol.
