O.K before I start, this may contain spoilers (Im in chapter 9), so if you dont wanna know, then leave now.

Right so, I just got to Barthandelus, and he beat me... bad...

My team was Lightning, Hope and Fang...

I was doing Okay at the start, I got all his armor off and his smile attack where he rips his face off and shoots you with the guns behind there didnt really have me worried...

Then he started to charge up his back, so I changed to the cobat clinic paradigm, senitel, medic, medic and when he used the attack it was a one hit kill for all characters...

Should I just go back into the level and grin some, or am I doing something wrong here?
I heard that using shrouds is good, but I dont think I have any, and aernt they really expensive to buy, anyway??

Please help ;-;

When he charges up, heal up everyone and use synergist for a while. Then switch to an attack paradigm to reduce the damage you get. You should grind for a bit, especially before Chapter 11 :L

Thanks....

I think Ill max out all the crystariums before I go in...

And I think Vanille will take Hope's place, because of her higher HP...

You don't have to max, but around there. By the way, if you get him to stagger, try using a summon :U
You'll get your health up too.

For that battle I used Sazh and Vanille.

Vanille due to her having better Magic and Higher health then Hope and Sazh for the Synergy. It's good if Sazh has Haste, thats what was used in the battle and it helped majorly. When he starts to use the face attack switch so Vanille is healer, Sazh can be anything and Lighting.. Well, Commando. After everyones healed up switch to an attacking paradigm but keep up with Sazh's 'buffs'.

Also, remember to take off his 'armour' pieces, taking off two of the major pieces does like 80k damage to him I think. Eventually you'll start doing within 5k plus with Lightning so his health will shoot down. Probs the easiest boss I fought until I had to give the game back as I rented it. ._.'

I just beat him today. First, equip the Doctor's Code on you leader. (I suggest making Lightning, Sazh, or Snow your leader so you can summon.) Second, use an Aegisol and a Fortisol before the fight. (These buffs last five minutes.) Third, use Relentless Assault as your default paradigm. When he attacks you, use a potion to heal everyone for three-hundred. If it's really bad, switch to a paradigm with either a commando, medic and saboteur, or a ravager, medic and saboteur. Once you're done healing switch back to Relentless Assault. Fourth, when he uses "Destructo" use a potion, and switch to Relentless Assault IMMEDIATELY. Attack all out, if you can do 12000 damage before he's charged, he will flinch, you'll hear something along the lines of "Umph!" and he will shoot 12 projectiles instead of twenty. You'll also have more time before he attacks. Fifth, DON'T USE YOUR EIDOLON UNLESS ONE OF TWO CONDITIONS HAVE BEEN MET:

1. Your party is extremely low on health. (Summoning restores health fully.)
2. Barthendelus is in stagger.

Wait as long as possible to enter Gestalt mode.

Repeat this until you when. Lastly, if you still can't win, try upgrading your weapons, and changing your accessories.

Good luck! :)
