favorite meaning behind villagers?

I love that Audie is named after animal crossing grandma. To me that’s so cute. We need more food villagers like zucker tho!

So I know this is fully not what you mean, but!
As a baby I had this red teddy bear that I cleverly named... Redbear lol
And in my WW town I ended up discovering a sweet lil blue bear cub named, you guessed it, Bluebear!
Basically it was love at first sight and struck that little kid chord real hard, she’s been my fave ever since~

that’s honestly so cute aww 🥺

I actually really like the concept of Zucker too! But unfortunately I find the octopus villagers in the game really creep me out so that really sucks 😩

i love tht raddle is simultaneously meant to come across as a doctor because of the garb , but it also highlights the fact he's coloured like a poisonous frog and it's like he's trying to keep others from being exposed. its cyute ..

I like how Gladys is based on the Crane Wife in Japanese folklore, she has a loom and kimonos displaying in her house. I believe it's referencing how the crane in the story used her own feathers to weave silk, which she turns into beautiful clothes. Or I might just be overanalysing 😆

If you mean concept designs behind villagers, it's probably Zucker. they executed that pretty well. He looks real nice c:
Takoyaki tako villager ❤

other than that, I find it Lucky depressing but he's still an adorable villager. Lucky the uuhhmm... dead Mummy dog.

I love that Coco is based of a haniwa and Clay of a dogu. And Lucky story is so sad ;-;
I mean, yeah maybe??????
But....

The ones I can think of off the top of my head are Mira for the Sailor V vibes/possible reference, Ruby for the reference to the moon rabbit legend, Zucker for looking like takoyaki, and both Chevre and Nan for being based on just about the cutest thing ever that also has a bit of depth to it, and is gonna take some explaining lol.

As you can see, these two adorable little goats have houses that completely mirror each other while also having each other's photos above their beds. Now, there's a Japanese children's song called Goat Mail about a black goat and a white goal who are pen pals. The black goat gets a letter from the white goat but because she's a goat, she eats it without reading it. Then she sends a letter to the black goat saying "sorry, what was it your letter said?", but the black coat is prone to the same habit so she also eats the letter and sends one to the white goat asking what her letter said. So they literally just get stuck in this endless loop and I'm almost completely certain Chevre and Nan are inspired by that. It makes them by far my favorite of all the goats except for Sherb and I think having them both on my island would be so cute.

I love Lucky’s story. However I still do not know the story behind Hopkins and I am honestly not sure I want to.

like, is Hopkins just a balloon? Or is he some other kind of animal in a suit? An animal who doesn’t identify as the species they were born with and so they present another way? I’m so confused by him.
