Over the last couple years I've found myself playing more and more flash games compared to traditional games... nowhere near as much as I used to play video games overall, but when I have free time, they're online and free, and some are actually pretty cool. So I figured I'd share a couple of my favorites and also see what your favorites are? I'm not really talking about the shallow ones (which can still be a lot of fun; see: Bubble Spinner), but the ones that with a little extra stuff added on could make a decent GBA game.

Crystal Story
I've been playing this one recently. It's a pretty standard old-school RPG. You start w/ 4 characters, level them up, find better accessories/weapons, go deeper into the dungeon, and battle boss monsters. After about 30 levels you run out of things to do, but up till then it's a lot of fun - more missions after you beat the final boss would be good.

GemCraft
GemCraft is on its 2nd sequel (GC: Labyrinth, the one I linked to). Each game has added more depth to the game. Tower Defense games get boring very quickly... usually. GC has found a way to do the exact opposite - this is one of the most addicting flash games out there. It's unique in that it's not only a Tower Defense game, but has a lot of RPG and strategic aspects to it. Your goal is to clear each level by having your gems shoot down all of the creatures, but if too many make it to the end of the path it depletes your mana, which means you failed the level. In each level, you start with a certain amount of mana to create gems and towers, among other things, and then need to level up your gems, all with their own individual stats and special effects. Your success in the tougher levels greatly depends on which effects you choose to use, how you force the monsters to navigate through the path. After each level you gain points based on how well you performed and any achievements you earned - and with enough points you level up and earn benefits for the game.

And a couple more:
Battalion Nemesis - basically a flash version of Advance Wars!
Aether - it's an adventure game, it's unique, and it's difficult to explain without actually playing it... so give it a try!
